Harrods - A Victorian Department Store
« on: September 09, 2011, 23:04:02 »
For those of you who have seen Claridges you'll recognise the inspiration for Harrods. I liked the colour scheme and building so much I wanted to expand on it, creating a department store. I picked Harrods simply as it's in green and gold.

I didn't want the usual straight staircase as this would use up valuable wall space and creates a dead space behind them. A central spiral one becomes a nice focal feature leading all the way up towards the skylight in the restaurant.

I've also left the grand sign lose so it can be moved around to face the viewer.

Yet another custom to be lighted up and displayed permanently in your family room, EJ!  :)
I hope to drop into the real Harrods next week but definitely Hamleys!   ;)

Wow! This brings back fond memories of visiting Harrods for the first time in 1975....I was blown over by the displays and quality of everything in the store. The food courts with the hanging pheasants and other game knocked my socks off...we had nothing like that in the US. What a lovely recreation of an icon of the past and today. Congratulations, Pgal

Dearest Emma

Each of your magical creations are always taking my breath away for their originality, creativity and level of perfection

I love Harrods and Fortnum & Mason, London's two "Grand Dames" with their old fashioned decadent atmosphere which you have perfectly recreated here  :wow:

You are a true Master of your Craft dear Friend  :)9
