Wow!

These are some fabulous exhibitions, and the links make them come alive!
Thanks for posting so many photos for us to enjoy.
Has anyone made a calendar of upcoming PM exhibitions all over the world?
Has there ever been a large on in the US?
It would be great to attend such a show if we knew when they were held. Maybe Playmobil needs to keep a central calendar for fans everywhere on the PM website.

Keep up the good work, Pgal

Yes, the European playmobil conventions are mind-boggling in their size and attendance.  I do not know if there is a central calendar anywhere, but several of the European forums have listings of events.  On Tricornejock.com, the posters for upcoming events are shown on the left side of the page, and you can scan for dates easily.  If you do not speak French, there are occasional English translations as well.  Klickywelt.com is a bit trickier, especially for me as my German is limited to "reading" Playmobil posts, but they have a subsection in their forum Wettbewerbe (competitions) und Special-Events where there are not only postings of upcoming events, but also queries about future planned events and competitions.  Thank goodness for google translators and cut and paste.  I am sure that there are many other forums (previously listed in a post here on PF) that list events, but those are the two that I have found interesting.  Another link I visit belongs to one of our members, MacGayver, an incredible customizer.  i do not want to post a link to his site without his permission, but you can look it up in the members section here.  Much of his site is in English and he has links to some very large exhibitions.

Kaethe,

THANKS! We have French and German covered in our house, so those sights will be helpful.

Too bad PM won't list them all in one place because they sell so much product due to the shows. Lego has a team that goes to many shows and represents the company telling about its new products. We don't care for the attitude of several team members they send to some of the US shows, but at least they send them.

It is great that some builders create their own lists. The difficulty may be in hearing about the one time events in foreign places that are not well advertised. Maybe we can get our non-US members to report them to a site on pfriends.

As a marketing person ion an earlier life, I think it would be great to have a central show database for the whole world. We could easily visit a show in Europe on one of our trips there if we just knew the dates 6 months in advance.

May I suggest a calendar/database be created at pfriends for such a purpose?

Cheers, Pgal

If you check the basic links on top of the page (home, help, guide etc..) you'll find one such calendar  ;)

I've only been a member for a little more than a year here, but I doubt there was ever a trip organised. Maybe a trip to Zindorf some years ago but as far as I know it was not just a Playmofriends event.

Could someone add Kirkbean Exhibition 2011 to this for 30th and 31st July and 1st August please.

Thanks for the reminder about the calendar on PF. It lists lots of birthdays but only two events that I could find.

Should we make a separate event calendar that just focuses on what is happening where?

Isn't there a show in Wolfsberg every year? Did anyone on PF go to that one in 2010? Maybe they know the 2011 dates. Unfortunately Germany has pretty yucky weather most of the winter, so that could be a real downer from those of us living in decent climates.

The idea of an event and a factory tour for members of the various PM forums sounds wonderful to us. We would love to go if it were in July or August when the weather is decent and parents could take their children. And May, June or September could be okay if the focus is on adults.

Maybe offer the nearby Fun Park (wherever it is) as a part of the package and have an exhibition hall for showing dioramas, too. We would not have to stay overnight near the factory as there are lots of nice small towns in Germany that are so inviting. Need to find someone familiar with that part of the country.

That way folks from all over could meet each other, and those who could drive to Germany could bring some of their work.

I would be glad to help organize this if we need to put together a group with each forum represented. My husband is Austrian, and we have not been to Germany together yet.

Does anyone have a contact at PM DE who could help get us in the door and plan a show and some special events? Have they ever done a show at/near the factory? What is the show hall availability around there?

This does not have to be a huge event the first time around; smaller might be better to see how well it worked. Then it could be expanded in future years if folks wanted that.

A big problem would be high airfares and limited seats on flights to Europe from the US. Prices are brutal this summer. We usually go during the fall or spring, but it can be too cold  to vacation in Germany at that time.

Anyway this is just a dream that could be a lot of fun in reality.

Cheers, Pgal
