4223 Ambulance car
« on: August 15, 2008, 01:29:09 »
Looking on Playmobil.de, I see that the 4223 ambulance car is no longer listed, so that was a very short life - about two years I think.  Personally, I always felt that it didn't offer a great deal for the money, although it did have its attractions (but not enough for me to buy one!)

I see it is still listed on the usa site so last call i guess. At $27 its not that bad i just do not get what it is supposed to be . Here in the US we are seeing more and more 4221 styled van-bulance's and we have the medivac or air-bulance but no family sedan conversions . We also do not have any moto-bulance's wizing about . I suppose if you are in a country where nobody yields to ambulance a motobike would be your only hope  . Not that you do live in a place like that  but in Moscow nobody yields , not even to the mafia any more  :'( no respect
If you hear the sound of the bell which will tell you that Grigori has been killed, if it was your relations who have wrought my death, then no one in the family will remain alive. They will be killed by the Russian people. :prays:

in Germany there is what is called a Notarzt, an emergency paramedic vehicle which attends before the main ambulance get's there (that's my understanding of it and how the UK equivalent works), and the Playmobil 4223 represents one of these. It cannot accommodate a stretcher, but it does carry essential life support equipment and medication etc for stabilising the patient or accident victim.  Being lighter and smaller than an ambulance, they can arrive before the ambulance and begin diagnosing and treating the patient.

In the UK this idea has been introduced within the last 10 years or so.  In North Yorkshire, certainly when they were first introduced, they were automatically sent to any emergency call involving report of a head injury.  Often they're called first responders over here.  I'm currently working on a custom one based on the 3070 4x4.

Here's a picture of a German one:

I assume that means they're replacing it soon.

Surely if it wasn't selling, they'd keep it up to help get rid of unwanted stock, and if it was selling then obviously they'd keep it going too?

I've got one of all the sets fron 4221 through to 4227, but only one of each except the Paramedic on the bike, to go alongside my Fire and Police themes, but haven't used them for anything.

Thanks for the heads up, if I didn't have one I'd probably have to get one so as to have the same look across my hospital theme.

It may mean stocks are already run down.  Playmobil nowadays produce very much to demand, there are no large stocks held.  Presumably it'll appear in the DS vehicles section later this year in Germany to run off the remainder.

@Gordon: It works a little different here in Germany. For minor accidents only the "Rettungswagen" (RTW, ambulance, like 4221) is coming. They are equipped to cover all the things to stabilize the patient or to move him to the next hospital immediately. The crew of the ambulance is consisting typically only of paramedics ("Rettungssanitäter"), they do not have a "real" emergency doctor ("Notarzt") for serious accidents like strokes etc. Nowadays they work in a so-called rendezvous-system, in which the emergency doctor is then coming for serious cases to meet with the ambulance, but is not leaving the hospital in the minor cases. To the rendezvous, the emergency doctor is then driving with the "Notarztwagen" (NAW, which is the 4223) or the Notarzt-Bike (4224), which would be more Dr.House-style...  :P
Actually, I have a lot of friends working in the hospital system, who all cheered about Playmobil finally making a RTW and a NAW to finally enable kids to play a realistic rendezvous-system in Playmo-City... Well... I am not sure, but maybe there are just not enough strokes in the children's rooms to make the NAW a must-have...

Hi Socrates.

Does the doctor really drive himself, or does he have a specialist driver at the wheel?

It would seem quite a burden to be an urban rally driver and an emergency doctor, but it may be that way.

If he has to return to the hospital in company with the patient (presumably in the ambulance) who then collects the car?

Thanks for clarifying things, Socrates, it's much appreciated.  I guess at about one third the price the doctor on the motorcycle offers better value for money.

I think that there aren't enough over-weight klickies; that's the problem.

Actually, my explanation of the system over here was something of a simplification.  On both the emergency ambulances and the first responder the crew are paramedics and there is no doctor on board.  However, in some smaller towns with their own hospitals run by General Practitioners, there may be an emergency doctor car standing by at the hospital and the doctor on duty will be driven to an accident or other emergency.

Hi Martin!

Well, I oversimplified a little (as playmo does  :P). Of course, the doctor has not to drive by himself. As far as I know, they do not have professional drivers for that but also a paramedic who is driving the NAW. Sometimes they have medical students in the emergency training who go with the doctor and drive the car, some of the emergency doctors actually like it pretty much to be urban ralley drivers though.  :P

This seems a bit more complicated than in the US . Here if there is an collision than the Fire department gives first response First Aid . Then the Ambulance shows up and takes over and if necessary the patient is flown by chopper to the Hospital and it is rare . Usually the patient is driven there in the ambulance at about $2000/hour or so . at least that is how it works here in the county i reside in . We have plenty of overweight citizens and no need for a NAW or 4223
