Title: Yamagata Masakage samurai wearing a Mempo
Post by: cheng on February 22, 2011, 02:08:41
The half iron face-mask (mempo)
and the inside of his helmet (kabuto) was lacquered red so that the reflection on the

samurai's face will make him look more fearsome... :)

"Yamagata Masakage (1524 – 1575) of the Takeda clan, was famous for his red armour and skill in battlefield,
After his brother committed Seppuku(Hara-Kiri) as a cover for Takeda Yoshinobu's failed rebellion, Masakage outfitted his cavalry in bright red armor. It was said that his cavalry would always charge first in battle; sowing confusion and panic in the enemy ranks."

giant drums beating and a whole army of blood-red samurai(s) and Ashigaru(foot soldiers) charging and waving a sea of red banners...a blood curdling sight for their enemies...

"Yamagata was a fierce warrior who fought in many battles however his last was in the ill fated Battle of Nagashino where he was shot down on horse while charging together with his famous red fire unit and beheaded. All of them died together with him"

Great custom!!! How did you make it?

thanks everyone!  its your encouragements that spur me on to research and make better samurais  ;)

......How did you make it?

I assume youre asking about the mempo....I have several of those old firemen's yellow masks so I sacrificed one by filing off the breathing aparatus and drilled out his mouth like  :( ...no more smiles...then used the head with beard stubbles to simulate the mouth 'filter' and finally spray it red of course...
(no glue/blue tac was used on the entire figure)

I can only imagine what you would come up with if you started making resin parts.

No, that is Lego. :-X
Which reminds me,
I was going to ask what Lego set you got that from...
and if Lego still sells it?

thanks playmofriends!!

@PrimusPilus: I still have a thing against resins or something non-PM or non-Lego on my customs but like the crescent, sometimes I cant help it  :P but the part has to look PM-like so if I used resins, it wont be as detailed as our Spanish master's  ;)

:-[ :'( :-\ non-PM non-Lego WoT....would you believe its the gold cap from a bottle of Ribena(grape concentrate)?  :P
please dont ask me to perform the seppuku(hara-kiri) for this shame  :-[ :-[ :-[
I still have much to do  ;D true, Lego had many Samurai sets (I thought PM would do much better with a larger scale but the samurai special, I better keep my comments to myself) but have never tried buying parts from them, not as easy as DS I think.

I would love your Samurai there. :wow:

I can post one of these caps to you when I open the next bottle  ;) just give me the mailing address.

Thanks for the invitation but I will be a laggard participant if at all...let me quietly modernise my still primitive samurai army (I'm planning ashigarus with arquebusers next! please dont say 'cant wait to see them' my Katana makers need time to copy your spanish muskets and mass produce them :P)

Wow, cheng, you excel yourself again and again - that custom really hits new heights  :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow:  and I think the Ribena bottle top can be excused!    :)

The helmet is familiar - it seems like a fireman's helmet apart from the top, so where does it come from, please?

The mask seemed familiar, too, but I thought you had used the newer breathing mask.  With the picture of the mask turned 180 degrees, it's origin is clearer.

I had to use the old knight helmet without the visor for 2 reasons  :P (1) I dont have to drill the top 'breathing hole'(some think that its for threading their hair through, but its not, its just that they are constructed from radial pieces and will leave a hole at the top, maybe avoid having to shampoo their hair on long campaigns
(2) I need the visor pegs to hold the half moon (maybe I'll take a look at the firemen helmets again  ;))

thats another 'view'  :P .(I dont have a newer breathing mask but thanks for the idea, I'll take a look in PlaymoDb and thanks Heather)

I can start creating replicas once I have an original. ;D

Ok, I can wait... But I wanna see them soon! ;)
I have a few muskets I could trade you for the soda bottle cap.

no worries WoT....no need for a trade, it costs nothing  ;)

but if you need more, I'll have to stock up a few bottles of these concentrates  :P
....but its like displaying more than one of the new playmo samurai special helmets with similar 'horns'(they are personalised/added later by the samurai to the basic helmet) but I guess thats Playmobil for us (I'm guilty of liking clones too...except with different hair style/color which is not possible on a helmeted samurai :P)

I hopefully will not need more,
as there are a few playmo items that are coming out that may help.
Plus once I have it, I have a mold to base off recreations of it. ;)

thanks Emma.J, youre got very good customising skills yourself  ;) ...many of you have....just that we have different themes   :P

I'm still making some more red devils and waiting for spares from DS. I did say I'll buy 1 of the new samurai special but I didnt because it has always been my own rule to customise and still look like how Geobra would have mass produced it but this new samurai special if put amongst mine would make mine all look so un-playmobil...its like I've been making gross customisations...it has never been my style to put scaled-down realistic parts on my klickies, now it looks like I'm heading in the wrong direction, after making so many :'( at least I hope they will eventually make legs like/better than mine  :irish:

..they could have at least made sode(shoulder covers) like these for the new special, afterall they did make many new moulds for the samurai special  :-\
