Region focused sets.
« on: December 06, 2011, 18:43:05 »
It might be an idea for playmobil to release a series of sets that focuses on specific countries, focusing on something that could increase strong sales localy but with things that may not be nearly as popular in other parts of the world.

These sets could be available everywhere, but in much greater supply at the target country.

Some examples:

Confederate and Northern troops of the american civil war could be released in the United States, as part of one western batch that pits them against each other. All of it could be available at DS across the world, and stores outside the US could have a selection of it available but not all.

Sure, some troops are available in DS now but the average joe does not look there. And this is exactly something that could really help increase playmobil's popularity in the United States.

For the United Kingdom, additional redcoat sets could be released. Maybe including a little regiment with a drummer, flagbearer and a captain on horseback. Or maybe even a ship of the line.

For germany, restyled and updated Nuremberg guards seem like a perfect choice. They are obiously Holy Roman Empire troops, and that is from a period the germans could be proud of.

For the Netherlands, I'd suggest a Fluyt ship with its distinctive Dutch design, and including pike and shot era troops and sailors.

For spain, a galleon including Hernan Cortez and other brave explorers would be an obvious choice.
Maybe including a seperate little set with conquistadores.

For Italy they could go with additional Roman sets or something from the reinassance, like a Venetian trade ship or Leonardo's workshop including inventions.

For Greece, they could honour the olympic games by creating sets around the ancient olympic games including a classical age Gym.

For Scandinavian countries, a grand hall could be released filled with a viking king and many of brave vikings and a long table with benches for them to drink, eat and brawl around. For this they could have helmets without horns, to be more accurate.

All of it would be available everywhere, just more through DS or more limited outside the country its aimed for.

I am completely against any regional sets.

That's only good for one thing - to make a killing on ebay, IF you get them. Regional SUCKS.

I like the idea of these regional sets... but would like them to be released through the Playmo Websites everywhere... so sets celebrating different regions... but available in all of them... or course the ones that didn't sell in one area could be moved to an area where they sold well instead of being marked down...  ;)
Someday, I will organize my stuff, I promise.

I agree.

And else... what about other regions... south amercia, asia, australia....?
besides... we always complaint about the lack of possibilities for us (no DS countries) this would make it worse. IMHO.

Yeah, these would all make great sets, but they should all be fully available everywhere. The ancient olympic games one would have to be slightly inaccurate to be kid friendly, though. ;)

bb: No kidding! Would not want the kiddies around gladiators and man eating lions for sure!

All kinds of toys are sanitized for consumption by children, so that should not be a problem. Would love to see a full Olympic theme, too, Pgal
After two decades of male toys (esp. Lego and PM) in our house, it is time to build something for us women!

We already have gladiators and man-eating lions, in the roman theme! I was thinking more along the lines of work-out attire.

True, the ancient olympic games where played naked. Some robes would be needed there.

I just meant increased stock at those regions. Sets being available everywhere through DS at the very least. Just for the intention to set up regional events. I bet US stores could do a lot with Civil war themed stuff.

Or maybe it could just flow naturally, Playmobil USA would want more stock of this automaticly than European countries I imagine.
I just figured such a focus could allow playmobil to do new things that would appeal stronger to specific countries than world wide. Such things might make new fans from people who where not familiar or attracted to playmobil before.

Perhaps just increased promotion could work, and it could still fully depend on what stores around the world want to order from GEOBRA.

Eitherway these focused sets could really work. Or maybe I just want to see a playmobil Fluyt very badly.  ;)

These are good ideas, Rhalius  :yup:! I've often thought that having figures for regional chains of coffee stores, like Seattle's Best Coffee or Starbucks might be a good idea, too  :).
