When I read a remark on the Playmobil Facebook page about another broken Diver (4658), I realized that although this is a small, inexpensive set, it could mean a huge loss for Playmobil. This set was available as a regular special as well as a Pal at Target. This set might have been someone's first Playmobil set ever and if it broke while putting on the diving shoes, then people would get the impression Playmobil is a cheap toy. You know the age old saying "first impressions are lasting impressions" applies here. I know that most Target stores no longer carry PM, but I'm sure that many new fans and collectors were created over the last few years when it was available at Target. Not everyone frequents mom and pop toy stores, so it's very likely that this could have been a bad first impression for many shoppers. Shoppers who could have grown in to full-blown, diehard collectors like many of us here on Playmofriends!  Instead, they threw the broken item in the trash and never looked back! :wave:

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that items with frequent defects should be recalled and pulled from store shelves to avoid this kind of situation.

Yes I agree. you would think in an extreme case like this, where it is almost impossible to put it together without breaking unless treating it with heat, they would have recalled. Parents are so skeptical of "new" toy lines, I'd hate to see anyone buy this set and decide this is just some cheapo brand. :-\

Good point again Robbie! Lately qualtiy is an issue to many dihard playmobil collectors. The see the plastic used in playmobil parts and items as lower in quality, klickies don't sit ups straight etc... but that does not mean that a softer plastic makes a bad quality... the problem would be if, like in the case of the special diver you pointed out, the whole rage os a set is worhtless... I guess somehow playmobil do get a feedback and probably stop the production of the set alltogether...

When there were faults with a torch in a 25th anniversary set, Playmobil did withdraw it and have a call back I believe.

Whether Playmobil do a recall or not depends on people telling the shops and/or Playmobil that there is a problem - many people just can't be bothered.

well first thing is to contact pm about it no i think tell them your prob and  show if necessary i did so when i had that defective tyre and they sent me two new ones back.

For a toy that sells for a few $ a re call will be more expensive probably that just get rid of them . Similar to food products really.

The plastic quality for me ( a 'diehard' steck and 80-90s sets ) is a bit of a problem but as i will never get accustomed to those new plastic i simply avoid them and stick to the well proven steck quality and older sets  :love: :love: :love: :love: :love:
