Should they make f?gure with less surprise??
« on: November 27, 2011, 12:01:02 »
Like making the codes at the back less random, allowing adult buyers to identify what is in it instead of having to feel the bags like silly in the toy store? And those kids could still draw the one by luck. I believe the certainty could drive sales as hard-core collectors will buy the quantity they want no matter what, and save a lot of time. I am not a shy guy and have attempted and did managed to get what I want from the feel-fest. But I just have no idea whether that particular one figure is in the box, if the box is not freshly opened. :-\

People might claim, oh...this is not fair and kids are left with the less desired figures. This would always be true unless the surprise figures come in paper boxes and are adjusted to the same weight, like what the Japanese toymakers sometimes do with their surprise collectibles.

Good lord! :o

I like the spirit of adventure portrayed below, but collectors are a little more viceous than that sometimes ...

I was feeling some mystery figures at Toys R Us tonight to see if I could find more cavewomen.  (And an Uncle Sam)  It's easy to feel the figures that have capes, then you just have to feel if it's the short cape or the long cape.  I wasn't able to find an Uncle Sam (you feel for his hat) but I was able to find a Zorro (it's the hat with a ridge in the middle and the short cape).  The challenge is being able to tell the difference between the hair and the hats.
Feeling for the big skirts is easy on the girl figures if you're looking for a princess.  Then you feel the accessories (pointy hat - blue princess), (pointy crown - pink princess), (pointy star wand - aqua princess).

I do think it takes a certain brash personality, however, to be able to stand in the aisle and feel the bags and not be worried that everyone is staring at you.  Because, they are!  But, I'm a bold dragon.  Let them stare all they want.   :D

I guess that the idea is getting in the spirit, you know?
Well, I don't know ...

I think it is fine to have them be a surprise for the children... but it would be nice of PM to make "known" surprise figures available through their website for people who don't want to be surprised... or even just in the sets of 12 to make sure you get them all... then guess at multiples of the ones you want... I bought a case of each last time, and then a few more packs in the store... I am not looking forward to the prospect of buying entire cases twice a year... or at least my wallet isn't ...
Someday, I will organize my stuff, I promise.

A good suggestion, though some people, including me, might not want all of them ,for series one at least.

There is always asymmetric information in our world, maybe Playmobil can disclose how to decode the codes on their website. :-[

Baron,
Hahaha! I just made a similar post on another fi?ures thread suggesting that they sell sets of 12 at the toyshops, but not at PM.
Guess we are thinking alike for adult collectors, Pgal
After two decades of male toys (esp. Lego and PM) in our house, it is time to build something for us women!

I am quite adventurous and indeed did do the same like Rona....... 8-)
If people like the feel fest, they can just focus on the parts and refrain from looking at the code

It is quite cool touching the parts feeling them......but when I think of there are gonna be another two series due in 2012.......my legs just turn soft.... 8}

And you knew what....the store here only put up 24 girls an 24 boys for people to draw.....and after I had examined all of them with my hands....I asked whether all possible selections are included, which is a stupid question that I knew, the cashier said in a very sarcastic way they have thousands more in the back of the shop .....

It would be nice to have a code so we could collect what we want. For now I will just order a box of each to make sure I get what I want. I will be broke and just eat ramen noodles. :)

Yes, they SHOULD make the figures with less surprise!
I end up wanting to get the skier, and end up getting the fairytale princess! ::)
Sheesh.

Maybe we should set up a trade system with everyone listing their spares and trading or selling them at whatever they paid for them in their country. This would have to fall outside the normal selling limitations which are quite strict on this forum.

That way we might get what we want instead of keeping spares that we are not crazy about. We could set a date for posting what you have to sell or want to buy, and a date for trading/buying to end. If we all use the same identifying info for the fi?ure, such as no. 2 blue/1 for series 1, it would limit mistakes. And we could see what figures are in highest demand.

This might help folks seeing specific fi?gures and find new homes for those we purchased that we don't want to keep. Any ideas here as to how to make this work? I do not feel it keep newbies out unless they have been on the forum less than 30 days or have fewer than 10 posts. Folks could pick who they want to trade with based on how well they trust that person.

My two cents worth, Pgal
