Playmobil exhibitions in the U.S?
« on: November 12, 2011, 00:42:43 »
I was just wondering - are any Playmobil exhibitions being held in the U.S? :)
Specifically, Northeastern U.S. Thanks!

So far, there has never been one. It's something we've sure talked about before, though! We've mused that somewhere on the east coast would be a good spot... there are a few collectors in North and South Carolina, and I think I might drive all the way from Louisiana if I had an opportunity to set up my zoo! ;D I think it's high time we manage to arrange one in the US, something fairly simple, just an exhibition of several dioramas made by collectors.

If its hosted, it might be good to inform Geobra of it as well. Good opportunity for them to set up shop and sell playmobil to both visitors and collectors.
And a good opportunity for collectors to talk with the people of Geobra and overall leave a good impression.

Maybe we should start by figuring out who feels they could set up a decent-sized diorama, and in what theme, if it were close enough for them to get there. Then we could talk about location.

I would love to set up a zoo diorama, so that's one. Who else has a diorama they could set up?

I know BB could set up an awesome dio with his big building with the fog machine and continuous water supply, if he's willing.

Those are enough incentives to go  ;D

True, but I'd need an eighteen wheeler to transport everything, bb! Are you gonna load & unload, set up & take down, everything, I'm just sayin' ;D?

I've been thinking if/when one of these shows eventually gets done that there could be a small/mini-diorama or custom figures section. Something where people from other parts of the country who can't attend in person could mail their display with some set-up photos and someone at the show could set them out. It would increase the amount of apparent involvement and give people farther away a chance to take part.

Yup, It's too darn bad that the we collectors and U.S. are so DARN large and spread out. Makes it so hard to haul all of our jewels around for an exhibit.

In Europe, many can easily drive within a few hours to an exhibition site where 20 other collectors are installing their set ups. This just ain't fair!

Maybe we should do it in BB's hometown since he is the one who needs a semi to transport his rescue and fire squadronsssssss. Bill, What town do you live near, and how far is it off which Interstate? Do you know of a place where you could exhibit that might have a little space for the rest of us?

I would be willing to see if we can work a deal with a Courtyard or another similar hotel for a weekend rate and a few extra rooms somewhere, but we would need to make it convenient for Bill.

It may be too difficult for him to haul his stuff to Cary, NC where we live. Obviously there would be a space limit at any place we chose, so Rasputin's 89 or so buildings of PM would be a bit much for our size limitations. Cheers, Pgal
