5155 Darksters Speed Glider
« on: October 24, 2011, 22:07:43 »
The glider comes almost fully assembled in the box.

The surface is smooth and the cockpit is a shaded transparent plastic.

It feels quite good and is perfect to hold when you keep hold of the back of the ship.

The pilot can hold the controls of the glider with both his hands and he doesn't budge in hard corners or even loopings. The co-pilot (facing towards the back) hasn't got any controls and will fall from his seat more easily.

The cockpit opens to reveal the two seats, the socket for the power crytal battery and 4 slots for tools or weapons (which will fall out in loopings), but it's nice to have a place to store them.

The two circular fans on the wings will move when you do fast upward-downward movements, but it's easier just to breathe at them to make them turn.

The power crystal must be inserted into the power battery box to make the 2 real AAA-batteries work.

The box won't work without the crystal.

If fully charged batteries are inserted into the glider (battery slot on the glider's doenside) AND the crystal battery box is put in place, two things will happen:

1) The crystal will start pulsing in a beautiful fade-in-fade-out-effect.
2) The button in the cockpit will become functionable. You can now switch on the lights.
There are three of them: a green one and a red one on each wing and a whitish one inside the cockpit in front of the pilot.
They will light up in turns until switched off again.

The crystal (probably LED from the battery box) will keep pulsing all the time.

I wasn't successful with a photo of the 3 main lights, but the crystal glow comes across quit well in the second picture.

There are two figures that come with the glider.

Both are kind of "wired", but that's the case with all klickies from the series, as far as I've seen.

The pilot has got some kind of torso protection.
The co-pilot features a fit-to-the-belt thingy.

Both accessories are connected to their helmet with cable-like tubes. (Same material as the Playmo telephone wires).

The pilot has got some kind of head-up display attached to his helmet.
The co-pilot has got a fully movable visor.

They both have the darksters symbol on their body or arms.

And here the last three pictures showing:

1) The pilot's head-up display (will become the most ordered DS-item over the next years as it appears quite fragile AND comes off a bit too easily from the helmet).
2) The (sticker-based) arm-smart-pad that the co-pilot uses.
3) The guns/tools from that set - all very cool SF-designs

All in all, a very nice set, full of boy-like action potential, but as I've already mentioned: My two girls love the vehicle and "explored" the house and garden with it today.

I didn't think I would get so much fun out of the new battery-tech based sets, but it's real fun flying the glider with its light-effect on in an otherwise dark/darkened room. It just looks SOOO cool.

Thanks for the review, this looks like a great set. I am definitely looking forward to this series. It's one time when I am glad to wait, so I can save up for it all at once.

Great pics.

I had not given that series much of a thought.....cool little flying machine!
I just had visions of adding a long fuselage, wings and a tail assembly....

Thanks for posting,
