Teutonic Heavy infantry

After having bought a lot of crusader-blisters (for only 2-3 euro's a piece!) I had a lot of red crusaders left. I definitly did NOT want them as such. Suddenly, after I saw a slight custom by someone else (I forgot where and from whom; sorry) I decided to go for a heavy infantry regiment to support the light swordsmen. The front armour would hide the red cross. They wouldn't carry shields as they would wield polearms. After a investigations I knew that around 1200 they would have had spears as the other forms weren´t much in use (yet). Fortunately, PB has one such spear in the Mongol Special. Unfortunately, no partnumber was available - but with some luck I did manage to get them.

This is how  would like to have them all (on the right) and how they will all and up (on the left). The dark armour on the spearman on the right also exists in a silver version. Unfortunately, it was only available in a single set (5725) and no longer available. I am not sure about the darker version (which might still be available) - it doesn't look right. That's why I will try to fit them all with the other breastplate. Imho it looks better. What do you think?

I like them all, but you are correct, the silver blends together better.

Oh yeah, I love these ones too.  I read somewhere that a guisarme was also already used in the 13th century.

Where is the dark armour from? I have one that came in a lot but have no idea where it is from.  ???

The dark armour is plate with a fixed gorget.  So this would date the armour to the 15th Century.

Actually darker armour would be more historically accurate on used armour.  Often armour was left black from the forge to protect it from rust as well as it was painted (again to protect it from rust - just like we do today with our cars). 

Anyway, I like the dark armour.  I think it gives a good contrast with the "silver" of the legs (which would be Playmobil's version of chain mail).

There are actually a number of sets that have it. The partnumber is 30 60 6710 and it can be found in 3329, 3669, 4063, 4177, 5740 and 5783

Sorry Ryan ... these will be Teutonic men at arms. If I remember correctly, the order was started well after the Siege of Acre. As for the Diorama - I would love to make one, but I seriously lack the space and time to make one. Besides, the unit isn't ready yet. I need a couple of Arm Greaves and the silvery breastplates more. Like I said ... it's work in progress ...
