@Elaine: I get inspiration from books about Heraldry and the Middle Ages in General, and wiki, of course. For those Knights of the Golden Fleece, there's actually a late Middle Age book called "Grand Armorial Èquestre de la Toison d'Or", where I got all the heraldry. I don't own the book but they have it in Paris' Great Library and...they scanned every page and put them online! Can you believe that?? Here's the link again:
http://expositions.bnf.fr/livres/armorial/index.htmHeraldry doesn't necessarily have a meaning, but it's personal to a person (ususally a knight) or a family. There are so many I just choose the nicest to my own eyes and first I make the shield, then the horse coat, and then the torso for the knight. Sometimes, I make flags too but, unfortunately, PM don't provide flags in every color you can get the horse coats! So some have their flag to be carried by a herald, and some don't. For the Knights of the Golden Fleece, I didn't make any flag. There are too many knights and I'm lazy!
