cohorts did not have both legionaries and Praetorian Guardsmen - the Praetorians actually got there own cohorts.

The Praetorian Guard had indeed completely seperate cohorts, and was the Caesar's personal army and had nothing to do with the regular legions/army (a bit like an ancient imperial non-amphibious Marine Corps).

Only sometime later in the republic, to mimic the greeks. Sometimes the let their beards grow as mourning.

I heard a myth that Barbarians were called barbarians because they shaved
(barbarians sounds a lot like barbers)
And shaving was cheating because you could not gab them by their beard when fighting.

I do not think this is any true at all.
But it is a good way of remembering that Roman soldiers did sport beards.

I like it too, especially that shaving was cheating 

I thought barbarian came from barbar, which is the way other languages sounded to ancient greeks.
Like in moder times you have blahblah if you don't understand what someone is saying
