flag (ensign) direction has always kinda confused me. On most promo pics of toy ships, the flags always blow aft.
In reality I would think flags would blow in the direction of the wind (which would either be at some angle traverse to the beam of the ship (coming from the side) or in a forward direction (if the wind was coming from behind blowing the square rigger forward).
However, I've observed footage of the HMS Suprise being blown forward while its ensign (the HUGE UNION JACK FLAG being flown from the spanker rigging) trails aft as the ship moves forward. My only explanation for this is there may be a vaccum behind the sternmost square sail which allows the ensign to trail behind the ship's forward direction, thereby trailing opposite the direction of travel. but sometimes the flag does also blow forward with the direction of the wind.
I find it interesting, you have your ensign blowing forward rather than the commonly-seen toy pics of people posing their ship flags trailing behind the direction of motion. (I too also usually have my flags blowing in the direction of travel/wind, not trailing backwards)
In your ship's case, the flagpole on the stern is angled backwards. with no breeze it would hang straight down as it sometimes can be seen doing when at port. It's too bad there isn't an angled flag (to compensate for the angled flagpole) that can be aimed forward (like yours is) without it looking like it's being blown upwards.
I do like your flag there though
. That's one aesthetic I love about the 4290 over the 3286: the 4290 has a flag on the stern and prominent stern lanterns (instead of the 3286's nob ornaments). So I like your transfer or parts!
