i wish someone with access to euro-side DS can order a whole bunch of union jack flags for me!  I think I love this set alone for the awesome flag!!!

btw, is it me, or are the spars "chubbier" looking than regular playmobil ship spars?  They look a bit swelled ala fisherprice again....  did playmobil lower the recommended age for children on their more recent sets?   The original 4444 ship is for ages 3+.   I rwonder if they have "dumbed down" some sets to appeal to a wider age range (and market) of kids?  Because realistically, even though playmobil is obviously made for kids, with all the detail and tiny parts to mitigate, it seems its actually suited better for older kids/adults IMO.   When I let my 4 and 5 year old kid/nephews/neices play with ships or castles, they actually end up losing all the bits and destroying beautiful setups (and sometimes break parts like flag poles, hull ornaments, railings, etc...).
Ahoy, Pirates, Hoist the Colours!

It's a nice set, I picked one up this morning.

Bigger than I thought it would be, plenty of space too. It could make a very nice merchant vessel since there arent really any good positions for cannons.

And here's a picture of what it could be like as a merchant vessel.

Personly, I see much more play potential in it this way than as the very small redcoat ship.
The merchant and his companion and dog could have all sorts of adventures on the seas, dodging pirates while delivering goods to the soldiers.

They really should make a large soldier ship sometimes, only the pirates seem to be getting the big ships.

I like how the blue barrel comes into full play with colors of the vessel.

Oddly enough they only included a red barrel with it.

The yellow wheel on the 5140 looks kiddish, I've changed them to brown ones on mine.
(the yellow was even brighter then the yellow wheel on the 3860-blueblack pirates schooner/sloop)

Resistance is futile, you will be boarded!

Oh now you got me beating myself for wanting to do a new DS order for such wheels...

Thanks for the review, Sir Pleamo, and for your merchant interpretation of the boat, Rhalius. :)

I'm really looking forward to the release of this set in the US.  The blue raised bow and stern and extra sails really turn this gunboat into an attractive vessel.  Personally, I think the stickers look okay and the yellow wheel brings out the yellow in them.  I plan to use one or two of these boats as French naval gunboats that would be perfect for coastal patrols.
