The Gunpowder Plot
« on: November 05, 2005, 15:02:36 »
As today marks the 400th anniversary of this famous event, I thought it was worth noting on the forum calendar. :) [Click here for more info on Guy Fawkes]

I even found a way to make this topic Playmo-related! :D

This great photo depicting the scene in the cellar was made by Victoria last year. ;) She doesn't have a Playmo fan-site, but David's (her husband) is well worth a visit! ;)

 Guy Fawkes Night!
As kids we threw bangers under cars and down the drains , managed to wrecked a car exhaust one year and Barry Nailer lost a finger.
Potatoes were baked in the ashes of the bonfire and sausages cooked on sticks. It never seemed to rain on Guy Fawkws night... funny that!

A very nice post Sylvia, using the linking tricks I`m trying to learn. I´m grinding my teeth!  :P

I love the photo from the Beckhams ;)  The choice of the little green man for Guy Fawkes is very appropriate. He was hanged, drawn and quartered I believe.

Happy memories, eh?  ;)
(though not quite for Barry! :o)

Barry Nailer lost a nail? Ouch!  :P

Um...aren't bangers like hotdogs? Why would you throw a hotdog under a car?  :hmm: ???

Hmmm...looks vaguely familiar but I just can't place him. Just a smelly wisp of memory...;)

Sylvia, Victoria is most anxious to join us...as is DD. I didn't know she could take such excellent photos! I'll pass on our compliments.

:!: Perhaps we can have a open call (not necessarily a contest) for Holiday photos for any and all holidays? We could compile a list that could be added to as folks from various countries suggest them, and then just start a new thread a week or so before each special day. It could be fun...a way for folks to learn of other countries holidays (for example we don't have Guy Fawkes Day here or Octoberfest but we do have Thanksgiving, and most countries--except you colonizers--have an Independance Day. We could even do religious hols this way without making them seem the only holidays to recongize + things like the Winter Solstice, Halloween--just passed--St. Patricks Day, Valentines, Bastille Day...ooh, I'm liking this idea. As I've not the patience just now for a whole photo story, this is the type of thing I could get up for as it could often be accomplished in a weekend. What do you guys think?

Sorry for the double post and being off topic. We could even make a board under Film and Photography for "Special Days Photos". :D

If you think it'll get enough interest, I'm happy to create a "child" board for it (that's what we call boards within other boards, btw :)).

The main reason I started this thread was because I wanted to add Guy Fawkes Day to the forum calendar. The software at present doesn't allow to simply add new events without posting a topic on them at the same time. I agree - it is a great way to learn about special days in other countries.  8-)

Very good! That's yet another kind of banger. Then there's automotive bangers... and also... um... maybe we should stop there? :-[ ;D

I think it would be very nice to have photos of different holidays/celebrations/periods of reflection or atonement

It would do a lot for educating our members how different nationalitys celebrate similar holdiays, and for educating our members on the various national holidays our fellow global citizens participate in.

Victoria's photo is stunning
I can only agree with G
