Bridgeburners
« on: June 27, 2011, 20:00:06 »
In the epic fantasy book series Malazan Book of the Fallen, the Bridgeburners are an elite unit of soldiers in the Malazan Empire. Their sigil is an arched stone bridge with a background of licking flames... their motto: First in, last out. They are great in combat, but they are also sappers, saboteurs and masters of explosives!

Thanks to Arnaud's (cowabougna) decal technic I managed to reproduse these first basic, and most important characters of the Bridgeburners!

I love Arnaud's decals, because he did not just do a stone bridge, but an exploded one with the flames coming out of its middle...

So, to meet the basic characters (I won't bore you with character details, although it would be very interesting to know):

Captain Ganoes Stabro Paran in the middle, flanked by Sergent Whiskeyjack on his left handside, and by Quick Ben, a most strong mage, on his right.

From left to right, Fiddler, Hedge, and Mallet... Fiddler and Hedge are very experienced sappers while Mallet is a very professional healer. All three of them with their... distinct personality  ;)

Another pic of the three men...

and last, but most certainly not least...

Apsalar or Sorry (as her alter ego is known  >:D), a young female assasin, and Corporal Kalam Mekhar, also an assasin but formerly a Claw... (agent of the Empire's assassin organisation...)

These guys form up the 9th Squad... Thanks to Arnaud, still plenty of decals here for the entire Bridgeburners Corps  ;D ....

Stay tuned for more!!!

They look really good as far as I can tell! Of course, I have no clue who they are or what they should look like , but they look sharp to me. ;)

Thank you Bonnie!

Well, not all of them have specific descriptions. Some have really detailed physical descriptions, others have very specific inventory, or habitual descriptions... And they are not supposed to be nearly as neat as I present them to be... they are usually covered up in dust from their munitions and heve little messy details. For example Fiddler's ... fiddle, has a lot of damage on it... They are also not as much military disciplined as one would expect them to be  There is this funny incident in one of the books where a commander enters a Bridgburners camp asking for their officer in charge... turns out the officer was nowhere to be found and when he was finally contacted, the officer said he had more important things to do than debrief a commander... so the commander ended up waiting for the officer to appear for many days to come

I also improvised in some of them customs, thinking what would fit their habits and descriptions...

I agree with bb...not a clue who these are , but I remember you mentioned this books in some other thread.
Anyway I like the customs a lot. I really love the dark not childish colors and it looks like their personality transfix into their looks!
I think that is a great achivement Panos!

Yes! At last, you used these transfers! When did I send them to you? Wasn't it like last year?
I love the variety, they look awesome, and I love those colors you chose for their clothes. Not easy to come by, but they really make a difference. Maybe you colud use some of the new Red Falcon garments too. They have some nice dark brown accessories.
Do you have some seige machines and stuff to make a little set up? See what they're good at and in action?
I'm not asking for a diorama, just a few things, a battering ram, explosives, catapult, whatever they use.  ;)
Maybe a small bridge to burn...
Cheers,
Arnaud

hehe...
I think you send them to me around Christmas 2010... Yes I though of the falcon garments too! In fact Whiskeyjack's neck piece is from one of those pieces... Siege machines... hmm... the Bridgeburners dont have use for any siege machines... they do everything with Moranth munitions (a type of explosive)  ;D But they did use catapults.... I'll see what I can come up with...

BTW, their name has more to do with them ''blowing up the bridges to their past'' rather than blowing bridges in war, but there is a certain relevance to that aspect as well...  ;)

In fact Whiskeyjack's neck piece is from one of those pieces...

Sorry I missed it. I thought of the scalloped collar thingie, actually. Though I knoww from experience that it comes rather low down the front and back of the figure so it would hide the top of the crest. But, maybe you could give it a try, if you have spares.
Best,
Arnaud
