We have driven down I-95 many times over the past 15 years and never knew about the FP even though it is just a couple of miles from the main north-south highway on the East Coast. It would be wonderful if PM could add some billboards a few miles before the exit off I-95 so that folks would know about this place.

My aunt, uncle and cousins live in the suburbs of Paris.  The last time we went to visit I begged them to take me to the funpark.  My cousins decided they were too old to even step foot in the place so my aunt, my mum and myself went.  It turned out to be half an hour from their house and as we got near to it my aunt says "oh that's what that is (referring to the building that looks like a playmobil castle) we drive past that everytime we take the car to the garage." ::)  How can she not have noticed the signs saying 'Playmobil funpark' or wondered what on earth the castle looking building was.

After our little trip my mum commented "if only we had known about that place when you and your cousins were younger-it would have been a great place to go when the weather was bad."   :'She was also impressed with the cafe.  (  Like the Florida funpark it was really cheap (only 2 euros) to get into the play area and it was free to go in the shop.

On a side note, maybe I can persuade her to drop in to get me some suprise bags?  :hmm:

It sounds like you got some great stuff in your recent visits and I'm so jealous that there is a funpark near you and that you got the christmas market! :hissyfit:

Wow! SO Sorry you missed going to the FunPark all those years! It really is a cool place!

The FL one is a drive of 11-14 hours from our home depending on traffic, wrecks blocking the interstate, the weather, road construction and how moody the gods are that particular day. So we only make this trip for business, which requires a car full of test equipment.

But yes, we are lucky that there is one on the East Coast and we got to visit it twice last weekend! Too bad there are so few FunParks in the world because they are such neat attractions and relatively inexpensive places to PLAY!!!

Hope you get to pick up some of the Surprise Figures soon; we are still waiting for them. I am building the two Christmas sets today, and they do look wonderful so far!

Cheers, Pgal

Thanks for the detailed tour of the Florida funpark. I do wish Geobra would have built one on the west coast. From the sound of how they advertise the Florida one it sounds unlikely that they will

If you hear the sound of the bell which will tell you that Grigori has been killed, if it was your relations who have wrought my death, then no one in the family will remain alive. They will be killed by the Russian people. :prays:

Yup, I agree. It does seem that they don't care whether or not anyone visits the FL one, so it would not be surprising if no others are being planned. Too bad for everyone because this really is a neat place for all ages to visit.

Not sure how successful the Legoland parks are, but at least they provide a place to go for fans of all ages. It looks like they will not have much competition from PM.

That is sad, Pgal

The L@#$ park in San Diego has been rumored to be closing for quite a while

The days of the huge theme park with high admission prices may be over. Not surprised to hear this.

PM has a better formula with the low cost entrance fee and small building playroom/store.

Maybe it is time PM expanded to several other US locations. Hard to saw without seeing the attendance figures and profit and loss statement for FL FP.

FInger crossed, Pgal

Martin,
Very right on points about the FL FunPark...it is a shame that it has been there for 16 years or so, and we have driven right by the exit off I-95 about that many times since then. There is almost no information available locally about this FP; I asked folks in the nearby stores and Marriott hotel where we stayed a few miles away.

It slays me as a former marketing professor to see no marketing in the day of the Internet.
There should be stories galore about this place in the FL media at least with all their dependence on tourists. And there is so little interesting stuff to do there unless you enjoy golf or the beach and want a serious bout with melanoma. (The only other places I care for in the Palm Beach area are the Norton Museum of Art and the monstrous, but eye pleasing modern courthouse where we got married on the spur of the moment when Hubby had the morning off from work, but that is another story.)

The lack of an outdoor play area is also upsetting even though the kids would fry about half of the year. There is no reason they cannot build it under a roof of some sort. Kids need to play outside everyday, and the Zirndorf Park looks wonderful. Outdoor places to play are so limited for kids everywhere these days. (See http://www.newsobserver.com/2011/07/22/1361469/apex-lets-children-play-in-some.html?story_link=email_msg for our local problem with so few parks and playgrounds.)

The area where FL FP is located is a bit of a tough neighborhood from what we could tell. Maybe safety could be a problem there or parents might not want their kids outside. At least real estate prices should have gone down in the long term bust FL has experienced the past 5 years.  Maybe this is a good time to rethink this FP and find a better location.

I definitely would consider a putt putt course as part of the outside attractions because it is popular for kids and can be fun for parents, too. Our boys loved putt putt in the 5-10 year old range. And pirate ships and knights' castles are so common in putt putt courses.

A clerk says that she has seen HB a couple of times in the 4 years she has been there, so it does not sound like a high priority for management. What a missed marketing opportunity.

It is interesting that there were so many foreigners in the store stocking up carts with toys to take home to wherever. Most were likely from Central and South America. They know how great the stuff is at home; maybe we could try to increase that feeling among the natives in this country.

And with no PM store in the Orlando area the last few years, there is no other outlet for tourists or locals in the Disney area of FL, the magnet for most US families with children. We don't care for the Orlando area except for Winter Park with its expanded Morse Museum's collection of Tiffany glasswork....the largest exhibit in the world.

Hope you get to visit this FP soon even with its lack of marketing splendor, Pgal

We just got back from Florida and while we had been to the old fun park in Orlando a number of times, since they closed we haven't made it further down to the larger one. However, as I experienced once before, I emailed them asking about simply if they had any of the German items like the Orlando one used to have. It's been two weeks now and still no response. This from their own email address. I couldn't find a phone number anywhere. I have read before that their staff was not the most helpful.
I did go to the one by the competetor at Disney World and was blown away by all the items, plus all the add-on pieces. They even have bins where you can make your own figure from all the different parts. Sadly, i don't see a day when we will see anything like that. Even in Germany.

Yup, I would love to see bins in a FP store that allowed one to build a custom figure. That is a great way to convert people to PM. It is so much fun choosing a torso, legs, head, hair or hat, and making something custom. Sometimes I stand in the L store and watch kids do this because it is so entertaining.

I am not sure why there is no marketing of the FL FP. And closing the Orlando one sounds like a really dumb idea with the huge number of people with children visiting that town. Many adult Americans return to Orlando every year to see the D attractions, too.

During the two weeks since our return from FL, it has been a blast building many of the sets we brought home from the FP.  We definitely want to return in a few months when business calls us back to FL. Any ideas about the role of Fun Parks? Pgal
