Rail track stocktake
« on: May 30, 2011, 15:13:41 »
For the last few weeks there has been track in various layouts around the house, but today, as we have visitors later this week and so the spare bedroom (where part if it is) is needed and having a railway in the hall and the conservatory is OK when there are only two of you but not four, I've taken it all up and as I was doing so I carried out a stocktaking exercise.  Here's the result:

Straights:             107

Curves:                134

X-overs                    2

Left hand points:       7

Right hand points:    12

Track extenders:      47

Buffers:                    11

Custom track:            2

Adding up the straights, curves, X-overs and points, the total length comes to 79.2 metres, in scale terms 1.9 kms or just under 1.2 miles of track.  Some of it comes from a 4018 set which I'm planning to sell later this year, but I may replace the track from that next year if I need to to create the layout I have in mind.

Words and figures in maroon are updates after finding more track!

In addition, there are two sets of the modern electric signals and four of the old style semaphore ones.  The modern ones are one at each terminus.

Gordon, is this the black plastic track or brass rails?

That amount of track you have must make for quite an impressive layout. If you ever decide to take on the challenge of laying it all down I would like to see your designs as we may be inspired to try it all out in the yard as well. We have enjoyed seeing your pond line but putting in a pond here requires fences.

We have ended up with quite a bit of the plastic track over the years but someday would like to convert to brass seeing as the RC's can run on both.
If you hear the sound of the bell which will tell you that Grigori has been killed, if it was your relations who have wrought my death, then no one in the family will remain alive. They will be killed by the Russian people. :prays:

A very impressive inventory, Gordon!
Forget about all of the other stuff,....all we need is the reintroduction of the 3526 Fire Engine!

I'm gradually putting the design onto my laptop and I'll post it in a new topic once it's ready.  It's really the designs for the stations with the space between being filled in as space allows at different times.  When (if?) I get it all laid down, then I'll provide photos and videos.

I, too, would like to run on metal track, largely because it would mean points could be electrified.
