English naval officers (late 18th century)
« on: May 08, 2011, 05:43:12 »
Hi,

Some late 18th or early 19th century English navy officers;
An admiral and some captains for my schooners (sloops they are also called) and for the bigger English ships I'm planning. The bigger ones which will be based on some 5135-ships (new 3940/US-3286 version), to be released here in August, and wallet permitting of course  ::) .
(My French Navy uses the basic 3940/3286; the ship's colours are just right for that)

Great job!!! Love these colours and hats...

Just one thought though... Why not use a different epaulettes for the captains? I used the ones you are using for my admiral but put the less fansy ones to my captain, right hand side of the admiral... I think it makes the distinction easier...

Yes, that's a very good idea!  ;) I first did exactly that but then I changed it to these epaulettes because I used the other different epaulettes for English Army (Redcoat) officers. I have more spares of the othe epaulettes but I keep these in another house, so I might make the change back to these ones later.  :)

Personally, I don't like the golden belts - use (mainly) other colors. The large epaulettes are distinctive enough - no need for other embellishments.

Cheers,
HDL

Hi HDL  ;) Thanks for sharing your view on these guys  :)

Usually I too try to avoid using all kinds of golden belts, and mainly use different kinds of brown and black ones.  The officers would look good with brown belts like from the Roman Pretorian 4659:

But I got a bit low on belts in this brown colour (most of them I've used on pirates/sailors-customs) and I thought the golden ones wouldn't look bad for Admiralty and high-rank officers with already wearing golden shoulder-embellishments.

Magnificent custom military figures! Excellent color combinations!
  Forget about all of the other stuff,....all we need is the reintroduction of the 3526 Fire Engine!

Very nice customs, Hadoque.  I guess your admirals are in full dress uniform with their gold belts.
