America... and the "Conquista"
« on: April 26, 2011, 06:41:03 »
Long time ago I made some Conquistadores, of which I then showed a few pics (here or was it back in the days on Playmoboard, I'm not sure)
I've meanwhile updated this topc in my collection and made new customs, I'd like to show some of them here...

The first one represents "Montezuma",  ruler of the Aztec populations and their cities.

Here's Columbus, who first set foot on the Americas in the service of Spain.

Along with him came the Catholic Church...

1st one is a priest, sent to convert the Indian population to Christianity.

2nd one is also a kind of priest, but from the "Inquisition"...these fellows made use of torture to "convert" those who were not so willing to be converted.  ::) So I made that one in black, look bad, carying prison-keys and having (historically incorrect) a sword.

Along with the priests came the "Conquistadores"; Spanish noblemen & their soldiers, looking for gold and treasure in the New World...

The soldiers didn't spare the poulation; they raided and burned villages and cities, as well as the "Aztec books", known as the Aztec Codex. Only a few documents of these worthfull books about Aztec Culture survived the European invasion.

And finally... not for children's eyes...

The Spanish were also severe on their own; sailors or soldiers that attempted mutiny got punished... by death.  :o

Edit: pic was a bit too cruel to show. I'll try to modify it and re-post one.

Edit-2: pic modified!

I forgot to insert this pic of a mounted Spanish soldier... :-[
Sorry for the bad lighting... (probably that was the reason I had it not together with the other pics)

 :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: :hmm:

The Conqistadors were no angels but neither were the native indians who were carrying out human sacrifices including babies on a daily basis. Thousands of people were slaughtered in their blood pyramid temples and partially to blame  were also  these blood  customs of theirs that lead  to the brutality excerted from the spaniards to the locals. I think the spaniards were exceptionally brutal and conquestadors like Pizarro, Balboa, Cortes , Lope de Aguirre entered the history books not so much for their discoveries and condquests for the spanish crown BUt for the sheer brutality , and they called them selves christians. I dont think it was right to create conquestadors from playmobil , i am a bit surpised actually they created such a politically incorrect klikcy to be honest   ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

THey all look really great, Hadoque! I really love Montezuma, very well-done!

Speaking of the sacrifices made on these pyramids, my brother is in mexico and climbed one of them yesterday, the pyramid of the sun. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Piramide_del_Sol_072006.JPG
