There's no such thing as a stupid question. 0)

It took me a while to figure out what on earth everyone was talking about with steck and system x!

If you say so....what is system X?  :-[

System x is the newer building system, used for the school, hospital, a lot of modern houses and buildings. The x refers to the little x-shaped holes on the red and yellow connector pieces, I believe.

Ah, makes complete sense! Thank you so much! ;)

At one time Playmobil used to produce a run of 10,000 of an item and when this ran out do another production run if sales justified it.  Now, however, they produce smaller quantities and more often, again if sales justify it.  Holding large stocks of finished is expensive.

Yes thank you Gordon 10,000 was the number I was looking for, and I was so sure you had reposted that comment before, but I could not remember if it was 10,000 or 100,000. So I was wrong!

i just read in the playmobil book that the castle ghost when it came out sold 320 000 in one year. steck castles are not rare items. at ebay there are tons of them. i think the number of 100.000 is more realistic than 10.000 - just guessing

well 10,000 in one production. then another 10,000 when the stock is finished, then another 10,000 and another 10,000... and so the story goes...

I now have a vague remembrance that someone in here said, but cannot recall who, that 100,000 is the limit usage of each mould playmobil uses...

Wolf : when you talk about the moulds i find this hard to believe. just think of all the parts that you need several times in one set or the basic steck parts like:

http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30%2007%206100

the quantity of 10.000 for boxed sets makes sense when you say they started with 10.000 then wait for the feedback / orders of the shops and then make another 10.000 or stop producing when the sales are too low. again just guessing
