Is it just me or is all the "good stuff" extra hard to find on ebay these days?  Okay to be fair, I'm talking medieval sets mostly - and I won't even say which ones in case SOME OF YOU get an idea to search for them on ebay and snatch them up from right under me ;D but those of you into the medieval stuff know which sets I mean... seriously... I've been looking for the regular hard-to-finds and they're harder than EVER to find!  What happened?  Is it just the the last of them have been unloaded, from kids growing up, and now all that's left are the newer sets?  Are people not selling cause they want to hold on until they're worth even more?  Is it all in my head?

Only time will tell on that... patience is a virtue... one day there is nothing, the next there are more than 10 auctions of the same set listed!

Things seem to go in cycles. One day none, & the next day some.
Forget about all of the other stuff,....all we need is the reintroduction of the 3526 Fire Engine!

I haven't been watching the Playmobil stuff on ebay long enough to see the trends. But...

I think sometimes on ebay you end up spending way more than an item is worth if there's someone who wants it just as bad as you do. Great if you're a seller... not so great unless you're independently wealthy. lol

I have stayed away from evil bay because I end up spending WAY to much on sets.

I get some great sets and great prices on Auction sites. I have noticed that this is just a lull in the coveted sets category. I have noticed the trains are in short supply but all of a sudden there are 1/2 a dozen seemingly out of nowhere. It would seem sometimes like people all get bitten by the sellers bug and they list in the same month.

Yes it is very easy to get carried away on an auction if it is a set you tell yourself you have to have. I see it all the time where some buyers drive a price sky high on a particular set and then maybe a day or sometimes even an hour later the same set sells for 1/2 the price.
If you hear the sound of the bell which will tell you that Grigori has been killed, if it was your relations who have wrought my death, then no one in the family will remain alive. They will be killed by the Russian people. :prays:

There is a cycle but logic tells you the numbers have to be diminishing.

There were only so many made to start with. Some sets will have been lost or destroyed.

Some people will never sell their childhood toys and memories for a quick dollar, and many of those that will probably have.

The most likely time for people to sell their toys is when they leave their parents' home, maybe for college, maybe permanently. Age, what, 18 to 25? So a toy you have age 10 would be sold 8-15 years later. Thus a 1995 toy would most likely be sold by 2010...

Yes unfortunately I over time notice certain sets dwindling in numbers  :'(.

I find you college theory quite interesting. Now I want to go look at the catalog for those years  ;)

I also wonder how global auction shopping has played a role in  allowing international advertising/buying and when these sites came on line. Before them it must have been quite different to try to track down an old toy.

 :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: :hmm:

I have to say i dont agree with you . I have been following ebay on a weekly basis since 2002 when i joined it and Mediaval Playmobil has always been on top of my agenda . ( no surprises there for some I am sure ). I think Playmobil 3440-3449  ebay traffic has more than double since the 2002-2006 era on average and the 3666/3667 is vastly available throughout. With references now outside steck , rare sets from mediaval themes come and go all the time , very difficult especially if you are talking about MISB or MIB sets to recognize some yearly /seasonal patterns I think. I think what is interesting is the rare parts that differentiate between creating a rare set and simply having commonly available parts , such as a sign for a 3444 house . Now with referece to these I thik there are more every year as Playmobil sellers become more in numbers, more specialised and experienced and prices for such items have genrally gone up but they are available. In addition if you do an internationl ebay search for such items and ensure that Germany is included you might se a different picture on availability. All together i think as far as mediaval playmobil is concerned there are more used items than before but also prices have gone up. There hasnt been a singel time when i could find a set and more especially a ' rare part ' or klikcy within 48 hours I must say and there have been ' quite a few' playmobil mediaval purchases. If you can to be more specific about items you look for in the designated area in this lovely forum I am sure you will get help/ links to find them  ;)
