Actually Gaston, Gordon's pic is exactly how it should be done. you see this way, sail movement is restricted this way, as wind coming from the back and sides of the ship can have bat concequences on the sail and rigging if its not done this way
the hook is called gaff in nautical terminology: http://www.thefreedictionary.com/gaff
you mean the way the rope goes around the top of the mast to the dobble hook in the sail? that could be ok, I don't really know.
But I was meaning the lower rigging in the sail. (there's no pic of that) You are the expert Panos but to me (IMHO) this sail must take the lateral wind and transform it into a forward force so it MUST be able to move from side to side depending on which direction the wind is coming, right?. Like any vessel, right? so if we do it like the PM instructions suggests we get the sail fixed in the middle of the ship with no posibility of movement. Unless Im absolutly wrong about the porpouse of that sail.
The opposite happens in the pirate ship 3940. That end of the sail is absolutly loose (this must be only for play benefit) but in real life that thing moving free from side to side of the ship can be really dangerous for men and ship.
