"Playmobil is looking to shed its toddler roots with a new range aimed at 8- to 11-year-olds called Secret Agent.

The range will feature a host of new toys complete with backstory for your children to get into - a new direction for the company.

With a new age group demographic, comes the opportunity to “gadget up” and with that Playmobil has launched a wireless digital video camera and remote control car to appeal to the masses, keen on their tech.

The idea is that using the camera will give you a point of view from within the car, with the signal from the video automatically relayed back to a display you’ve bolted on to the remote control, and Pocket-lint was at the Toy Fair to have a go.

We plugged the new camera kit into Playmobil's new remote control car and took it for a spin around the Playmobil stand and before the company's reps could stop us, out into the show for a drive.

Having the screen being fed the signal of what the camera sees means that you will be able to see the world from a whole new perspective, as well as drive the vehicle even when you can’t see it - handy for looking up girls' skirts - no doubt.

While the screen itself is pretty basic and ropey (don't expect Retina display or anything) we can tell that kids are going to love it, with the camera being free to be used in a variety of situations whether that's in a remote controlled car or not.

Expected to be priced at around £100 the camera kit will be available in May. You will of course need to also buy the remote controlled car, however you could get away with using any vehicle or even someone else, as the two systems don’t need to go hand in hand.

Didn't realise the camera kit would be so expensive. It's a lot of money to spend for my son to look up girls' skirts (which, as the article suggested is EXACTLY what he would be wanting to do)!

We have spoken about it (not the camera, the other) and I warned him that he could get arrested for it when he's older.  His answer? Well, I'd better do it while I'm 5, then

An all-in-one entertainment centre!!  His teacher tells me that however bad her day gets he always manages to put the smile back on her face  (she writes down what he says when she has time too!!)
