How NOT to clean Nuremburg quards (chromed parts): big SNAFU

I'm sorry. I'm really really sorry, Giorginetto.

Recently I bought a really nice lot. 3 steck houses, one with pointed roof. Al the bits were there, toast, lanterns, bolts on the doors. Nice price. Some animals, magic tree, furniture and some nice Nuremburg guards.

Decided to clean the lot. Used a detergent called biotex. Works well, normally.

Luckily the rest of the playmobil survived okee. I'll never use this stuff again. A warning to you all!

Thanks Wolf Knight, yes I followed it back then. It didn't say dipping it in warm water with detergent was going to damage it, only solvents. So I didn;t really expect anything would go wrong. Hm.

My initial idea was to shine the chrome with the solvent, but seeing the solvent removing the chrome, i decided, why not, remove all the original chrome and paint it again!

Ouch! That must have hurt! I have used biotex in the past to clean stuff, and in my opinion the "bio" part of the name is a bit misleading, it's pretty aggressive...  :hmm:

Yes, it hurt pretty bad. I'm gonna sue them for damages, those eco-b&^(#(%#@(!

I work with vintage plastics for my other hobby (restoring antique phones) and for that I use ordinary handsoap. Next time I'll use that.
