mobile version of PF?
« on: February 05, 2011, 18:25:00 »
do all websites have a mobile version by default? or is one especially designed by their web masters for phones and alike devices?

everytime i get on PF from my blackberry i see a strange looking layout - the wallpaper is all white and the letters are all navy blue...however when i sign up from my iphone i get the site version...

normally some websites that i also frequently visit from my phones (ebay, yahoo, facebook) automatically lead me to the mobile version, but i have the choice to switch to the original website version by clicking a button on the bottom of the page

is it possible to see the site version of PF from a blackberry? or does PF have a mobile version at all? i use my BB more than my iphone (the latter runs out of battery more quickly)

am i the only one experience this problem? :( ;D

PS mobile versions usually contain a more limited layout (at least that's what it seems when you're unfamiliar with it)

I check Playmofriends from my iphone, and it displays exactly as it does here on the computer, although I do have iphone app versions of, for example, facebook and ebay.

Is this what you mean by a mobile version? or just the fact that you can get it on a mobile phone ???

I would imagine that only the very popular sites, like facebook and ebay would have their own mobile versions

Damo :)

On Tricornejock they installed Tapatalk. It's a mobile app and it runs smoothly with an i-phone. Don't know if it's designed for BBs?

My mobile 'phone only lets me make telephone calls and send texts.  It's what a 'phone is for.

I'm glad I'm not the only one with a phone like that!  ;D

My, how quaint.

But seriously, smartphones which have multiple capabilities including internet browsing, email delivery, applications, calendar, etc. have gained in market share in the wireless industry over the past few years.  Verizon Wireless (who I work for) has just finished taking preorders for our own version of Apple's iPhone which will be released on 10 February.  While we were waiting for AT&T's exclusivity clause with Apple to expire, we embraced and successfully marketed Google's Android Operating System on several mobile devices making the Droid OS even more popular than the Apple OS.  This year, we activated our faster 4G (basically "4th Generation") network in selected cities and airports with the goal of making it nationwide (United States) by the end of 2013, a very rapid timeframe for the establishment of an infrastructure.  What 4G will allow for is amazingly fast (up to 10 times faster than what is current) internet browsing, downloads, and uploads on our mobile broadband devices as well as smartphones.

Industry experts expect that plain old cell phones which do nothing more than make and receive calls and texts will be uncommon although we will still support them.  There will still be a significant demographic which are really not suited for smartphones.  My personal prediction for the long range is that by the time the last members of the generation that did not grow up on high-tech passes, plain old cell phones will go the way of the horse and buggy.
