Esso filling station - can anyone help
« on: January 28, 2011, 17:59:41 »
Some time ago (years ago) I found part of an Esso filling station in a job lot of Playmobil off eBay.  I'm now, as some of you know, sorting through my collection and wanted more information on these parts.  I have heard there is a rare (rareish?) Canadian Esso set, but is this it?  Ceertainly, the fuel is sold in litres and one of the signs is in French.

Gordon! I have a pile of these which are in my throwing out/to perhaps not :-[ box.

I think they are all the same, and are all the Canadian ones, but as far as i've experienced they aren't at all rare and are certainly not of any value unfortunately :(

Thanks, Damo.  "Not of any value" you say - another chance to pay the mortgage off gone!

If you're thinking of throwing bits out, do you have parts spare to make this complete or at least "completer"?

The filling station is one of the sets my brother had that my parents unearthed from their attic when they moved in August, and I got to see it/play with it a couple of weeks ago.  I took pictures, but on my mum's camera so it will be a few months before I can post them.  My mum wisely saved the included instruction sheet which allowed me to reassemble it and check that it's pretty much complete. I'll scan it next time we visit.

My brother's set has:
- a second tire stand like the one you have and 4 or 5 tires to fill each, two different kinds (winter and all-seasons?)
- a clip-in tire pressure gauge thing on the main post of the stand with the pumps, and a bucket and windshield wiper that go in the light grey holder on the post
- more flowers that go on the left of the piece in the foreground of your first picture, plus a fuel price sign that slots into the middle.
- a green jeep with a fuel can that fits into the back bumper beside the spare tire, and a yellow car with roof rack and some suitcases
- two ramp pieces that a car being serviced can drive up on and a little grid for someone to lie on while working on the car, a tool box and a bunch of tools
- 3 service station employee male klickies (in red and grey uniforms I think?), 2 or 3 kids, 4 or 5 other adult clickies, a bicycle for one of them
- a motorcycle & motorcyclist that may have been an add-on set -- he showed up in some of the pictures on the reverse of the instructions but not all

I might be forgetting something...  I'd seen sets on ebay like it and thought it wouldn't be much fun, but my son, my husband and I and my parents all enjoyed playing with it.

Thanks for the extra information, Christina.  The plans would be very handy if you can send me a copy when you have the chance.

Sure thing.  It'll likely be a month or possibly two before I can get it from my parents to scan it.
