the old 3050 style ships are very stable.
THe 3286 is not. Believe me. I have thoroughly tested this ship in bathtub, swimming pools, AND a real lake. I think even Playmobil is aware of its inherent unstability, as even the original mold has to have an ugly counterweight ballast attached when u put it in the water, JUST so it won't topple over. The old 3050 style ship doesn't need additional ballast counterweight besides the one already installed on board.
The only time the 3286 is "stable" is if you remove all the cannons (all 8) and all the clikies. Then it can tread water alright. BUt what is the point of sailing an un-armed, un-manned ship?
When fully armed and crewed, the 3286 simply does not stay upright very well, especially if a wave crashes against its side and enters the gunports. Once you add the counterweight ballast, the overall weight of the ship itself is increased and brings the waterline even closer to the cannon ports.
Believe me, I have thoroughly tested this ship back and forth, experimenting with different ballast weights, different ballast depths, different cargo loads, different crew configurations, different placement of crew members (makes a difference whether u have a clicky on deck versus up high on the tops (crows nest)....and diffrent armaments configurations (number of cannons).
My end conclusion is this ship is NOT stable the way it is. I'll get some video to show u my findings...
