Rare Red Fireboat?????
« on: April 11, 2006, 19:58:23 »
Guess what,

I was looking on ebay today, when I came across an auction that was ending in 5 hours time for a rare fireboat. I don't usually take much notice of any thing that is supposed to be rare and nor do I really bother much with looking at fire and rescue type auctions. However  for some reason I did and what I was looking at was something that I had never seen before so it was time to flick through the old Playmo collector.

I can't find this boat in there, the nearest thing is a fireboat made by epoch of Japan set 3999 but the stickers are different. So I believe this to be a late Playpeople set possibly made in the last year of production 1979-1980. My reason for this thought is that this type of boat was first seen in 1979 in the klicky set 3539 police boat so it was out during the Playpeople days. The main reason though is that the seller also has other lots on, 3 in fact of figures and all contain Playpeople figures such as the traffic warden and English bobby and of course the seller is registered in the UK.

So has anybody else ever seen this fireboat before, does it appear anywhere in the new guide, maybe Andy Clarke has found one?

Hi Andi,

Thanks for those 2 pictures, they are similar to the Epoch version from Japan.

I know the one on ebay could of travelled here form those places but I still think that there was a European version of this boat first. I will have to start looking at fire nad rescue auctions more often and see if another one turns up, hopefuly with it's original box.
