From here he could pursue the fights and he saw also on the king grandstand. The herolds blew into their trumpets, and the humans became quiet.

King JURON welcomed the begun knights and the people in a loud voice. Rejoicing shouting rose loudly from the spectator ranks. Multicolored cloths and flags were swivelled.

Now the marshal of the king stepped forward. Again the trumpets rang out and the spectators listened to him expectationfully. “The first contest of the today's large tournament is the bow shooting. With a distance of 50 steps is begun. As the first competitor the noble VALDOR from Mittland will begin.”

Thus the noble knights measured with one another. First on 50, then on 80 and finally on one hundred step. In the long run only the noble SELVIC from the Mountain realm, lord TREMOR from the North realm and the young prince TURID remained.

For these three the target was carried now on 120 step distance. As the first lord TREMOR aimed and met the third ring.

Now it was at SELVIC. It met the bullseye. Strained the crowd stopped the breath, when the prince aimed. Its arrow flew by air and met likewise the center. Thus the young prince had reached the final in the bow shooting. The spectators on ranks let cheers ring out on the two finalists.

Now the boys brought the target on 150 step. When they wanted to set it off, the noble SELVIC instructed them by signs of his hand to carry it further. Only with 200 step he let them stop.

In the kingdom no bow competitor had shot ever before at such a large distance. SELVIC put on, aimed and met the first ring. Its arrow missed only around hair width the center. The humans were jubilant to SELVIC. They had not seen such a shot ever. Nobody could exceed that.

Everyone looked expectation-fully to the prince. He stretched his bow, aimed and lowered then the bow again. TURID said something to the both boys. Whereupon they ran quickly to the target and carried it still 20 steps forward.

Again the prince took the bow, aimed briefly and shot. The arrow rushed by air. The boys ran afterwards and brought the target to the grandstand. The arrow was exactly in the center of the target.
