Quickly the actors had put her small camp. The dancer started directly to prepare a meal. „ Where is the old man? “, she asked her companions, „ just he was still there. Food is ready. “ „ He disappeared in the wood. I think, he needs at the moment no society “, answered URS, the bear-volume, with a grin in the face. „ Let us eat. “ With big appetite they took the meal.

After a while the old man swept back to his companions. With big gesture the Minstrel offered to him a place at the campfire. „ Now if the stomach is empty, take richly to eat. There is enough for everyone“, he spoke with full cheeks to the old man.

The wolfsman took a seat and filled his bowl with some meat. “Yes, we must strengthen ourselves. Big efforts approach to us.” URS said to the old man, “my friend, not, that I would have even seen you laughing sometime before, but now your face seems to me even more serious than before. What does depress your soul?”

However, the wolfsman remained dumb. The silence of the old man was contagious. The conversation had fallen silent at the campfire , and everyone lay down for sleeping. Only the one-eyed remained awake. He added every now and then to the flames a piece of wood, so that the fire did not go out.

He stared without movement in the sparks. It was a clear full moon night, and there stood the moon bigly in the sky. Midnight was already over when in the distance a wolf howled.

The old man got up. He listened to to the wolf and murmured in his beard, „ yes, my friend, I must position myself to this task. No one will believe me, and thus the destiny will come true. “

Then he threw another wooden log in the fire, lay down to the others and fell asleep. With sunrise the group awoke. The camp was diminished, the glow was extinguished, and they came along on the way to the capital.

The actors chatted excited on the road, also the old Man took part monosyllabicly in the entertainment . The closer they came to the gates of the capital, the greater became the number of her companions.

The visitors came from allover of the kingdom and of the neighbouring countries. It seemed as if every inhabitant of the country wanted to be present at the tournament as a spectator.

After they had passed finally the city gate, the old man said to IRIN, „ follows the street up to Corner lane, there go to the " Golden Ox “. Says to the landlord, >Arn, the wolf man sends me.< He will give you place for the carriages, a space for sleeping and a warm meal for a fair price. I have to do at another place something else. “ „ Now so long you already accompany us, and only now we find out your name.“ „ My name was and is insignificant. However, the landlord is an old friend of me and he stands in my guilt. “ Thus spoke Arn, the old wolfsmann, and disappeared in the crowd of people.
