Winterhaven - Sir Alarch
« on: December 29, 2010, 23:46:01 »
(Sorry all for being a bit absent recently, I am doing lots of work on the Jousting Tournament as well as background stuff. Here is the first result of this, I hope you like it. For more background info on Winterhaven please check:
Crystal Knight

Royal Family

We start this story by introducing some new characters. A long time ago I showed you the Wizards Tower of Winterhaven. Today I will introduce the inhabitants: Valthrun the Prescient and his apprentice Ugunis.

Valthrun’s Laboratory is a place full of wonders. The chest holds many magical items and some of the books here are worth quite a penny.

TINGELING!!

The Mirror in the room is not just a mirror, it also functions as a communication device. It is an invention of one of his close friends. When someone wants to communicate with you, you'll hear the sound of a bell.

Valthrun moves infront of the mirror and speaks the command word.

„Edastama!“

With that the surface of the mirror seems to ripple and seconds later, a different face is staring back at Valthrun.

„Vaiko! How good to see you again my friend, how are you?“

Vaiko bows his head „All is well. I hope the same is true for you?“ Valthrun nods his head, Vaiko continues „I am in a hurry, but received some information that I thought you should know. Sir Alarch, will be coming to Winterhaven for the Jousting Tournament. His son, Sir Cygnet, will participate and The Swan and  Lady Suldy will be joining him on his trip.“

Valthrun gasps in shock at the news „That is great news, thank you so much for that, I will inform the king right away!“

Vaiko smiles and waves „Till next time, we need to do some catching up soon!“

„That we do, but this jousting tournament has our city's resources stretched to it’s limits and I am trying to assist wherever possible. When it is done, I will do you one better, I’ll come and visit. A change of scenery would do me good.“

„That would be great Valthrun, but now I need to hurry. We will speak again soon!“

And with that the surface of the mirror turns normal again.

Valthrun taps the mirror with his hand and exclaims:

„Edastama Darnald!“

After a little wait the surface ripples again and King Darnald appears!

“My King!” Valthrun says while bowing deeply “I have just received exquisite news. Sir Cygnet will be participating in the Jousting Tournament. He is the son of Sir Alarch and Lady Suldy and they will be joining him on the trip.”

King Darnald’s face lights up “That is fantastic news indeed.” The King nods and is thinking for a second. “I will surprise my family with the wonderful news over dinner tonight, I’ll have Vanidel sing “The Ballad of Sir Alarch” it should set the mood perfectly. Thank you so much Valthrun, I will get to this right away.”

That evening the King and his family are having a nice dinner. The queen however has noticed that King Darnald is a bit restless and wonders if there are any upcoming surprises.

Just before desert is served the royal herald enters the room.

“At the Kings request here is Vanidel Borgstrom, Bard of Winterhaven!”

At that Vanidel steps in to the room and bows to the gathered royalty. With his singsong voice he says “The King has requested my presence here tonight to perform for you “The Ballad of Sir Alarch”, it has been a long time since I played it but here it is!”

With that Vanidel starts strumming his lute …

As the last notes die away, applause follows, the King loudest amongst them. “Thank you Vanidel!” At that Vanidel retreats from the room. “My Family, earlier today I heard the wonderful news that Sir Alarch will be coming to Winterhaven! It will be a great opportunity for you all to meet this fine man. It has been 30 years since he was last here. He will be coming for the Jousting Tournament. His son, Sir Cygnet will be competing. The Lady Suldy will also be coming along; I have heard rumors that her beauty hasn’t faded at all.” A lively conversation follows and the evening continues normally.

Thank you for the background and character introductions, Gis.  Some of these characters seem very interesting and I look forward to see what happens with them.  Nice photos and a lovely ballad too! :knight:

Wonderful, brilliant, outstanding, delightful!

Great story and photos, I especially like the first two photos in the ballad and the idea of the mirror as a communication device.  I wonder the minstrel with his "singsong voice" has some Welsh ancestry in him?  This would explain his ability on the harp, his good singing and his voice.
