finding large holes cut in floors hidden by floor rugs nailed at the corners, I wondered if I made the right choice :-\!

:omg: What do they do that for?

Yeah, there were times when fighting arson fires, & finding large holes cut in floors hidden by floor rugs nailed at the corners, I wondered if I made the right choice :-\!

My reaction is the same as Bonnie's  :omg:

The arsonists would cut large square holes through the floor in old houses with basements to delay our attack to extinguish the fire, then they took rectangular floor rugs & nailed the corners in place so when we entered the burning house we would fall through the floor as the rugs gave way under our weight. In the basement, positioned under the floor holes they would put old furniture like tables upside down, & sharp debris like metal storage shelves, etc., to injure or attempt to kill us when we fell to the floor below. Our training had taught us to reach ahead & touch the floor as we advanced hoses into the building, & luckily we could feel the hole under the floor & radioed our superviser who commanded everyone out of the building to change attack plans.

Sometimes it's the reverse :-\! Or in other words, movies will be made based on real events!

Greedy people trying to collect on insurance claims, or looking to get their,...never mind :-[! They would booby trap the building to delay our efforts to extinguish the fire, trying to let it get strong enough to destroy the evidence of accelerates, traps, etc., by total destruction. Our lives were considered collateral damage, but arson investigators are very keen on finding out what has happened ;).

Thanks for an interesting tour, Julian.  I enjoyed it very much indeed.

I like the custom with the tape.  I've used a similar system but I found some decals which were two stripes just the right width apart.
