Seeds
Part 2
The Wolf had crossed the distance between the Sedna Mountain and Blackwood forest as fast as he could. He was the Master of Wolves, the most powerful one, the most vicious and the proudest. The only one Linur would trust.
He put on hold his endeavour only to watch that moment, to savoir it, the moment the wagon would be taken, the moment everything they’ve planned would be put into motion. He enjoyed every second of it and off he went again, running as fast as lightning. A silver flash against a green background. He didn’t even see the girl.
He run through the wide forest, to its southern limit. The Dead Moors, they called it. A secluded small valley where nothing grew or lived, but everything seemed to have eyes or ears; even rocks, even dust. It was the perfect place to hide; no one would dare to go in there, looking for trouble or anything else. There was nothing to look for in fact, but death.
Just passing the southern edge of the woods there was a small wooden house. Peter Hellfner had lived there for 20 years hiding from the world. Purging some guilt, too scared to face what he had done; repenting, longing…..
Morning had found Peter making his daily chores, feeding the animals, preparing his breakfast, cutting wood for the fire.
“Hey Bob….come here Bobby, I had seeds for you, and some nuts, come here Bobby” he called with a jolly voice, axe in one hand, bucket in the other, ready to take the goose he fancied, to kill it fast, with compassion. He learned to be compassioned.
Suddenly he saw those red eyes he always feared, coming out of the woods.
The Wolf would eat this one! He hated humans, he hated their smell most of all, but oh! they were tasty!
He loved they fear him so without taking his eyes from his prey he run down into the dead valley and, when he was close, jumped on the human, who fell back, scared to death.
“No please, I’ve done what you asked me to! Please don’t kill me!” he begged, disgusted by the Wolf’s breath so close to his face.
“Oh I won’t kill you” said the Wolf. “There’s plenty you still have to do for us. Listen! Our Liege will come to check on you at midnight. Answer all the questions and ask none. Do whatever you are asked to, and we will spare a couple of lives as promised.”
“How will I recognise…? But he was interrupted.
“Oh you will” Said the Wolf even closer to his face.
“Ok, ok. Tonight. Midnight. Whatever I’m asked!” he said out of breath. He closed his eyes waiting for the bite, but the pressure in his chest was gone, and also was the Wolf.
He picked himself up and tried to focus to continue with his labours. Fear made him hungry. And right now he was starving!
Far from Dead Moors, deep into the caves of Sedna, up north, evil forces had been waiting for news.
“Master” said a harsh voice behind him.
“Finally” he thought without taking away his eyes from the fire.
“What news do you bring Panos?” Said Linur turning around to face the Wolf.
“Everything is ready Master. Land and sea are covered. All the pieces are in place. We are waiting for orders.”
“Good….our Liege will be pleased” he said to himself. “Panos, go!…..it’s time to wake up Lasher.”
