Captain Henry's Undead Pirates
« on: February 24, 2006, 02:50:31 »
These are not for the faint of heart! ;)

I had been working on these for a Halloween project, but I have not had time to put the finishing touches on it. So rather than wait, I thought I'd share with you some of what I have so far... the crew of the Mortis! There are some simple parts swaps, a very little bit of repainting, and some more involved surgery. Hope you like them.

First, the new captain of the Mortis, along with the first mate and a crewman. Some of you may remember my pirate zombie from a while back. He got sent away on a mission overseas, so I had to make a replacement...

Next up, a scurvy sea-dog who in a past life went by the name of Solomon Kelly, and is now just known as S.Kelly...

My idea was simply that, if a pirate had lost limbs during life, simply becoming an undead pirate would not bring them back. So....

And lastly, two pix of the man behind the magic, so to speak, the necromancer Mortis... I tried two different hats on him, to see which looked better. Personally, I like the last version the best, but let me know what you think.

Some very clever (and humourous) customs there.  I especially like the skeleton with the wooden leg. ;D  The third one of the live pirate with the skeleton arm is very subtle and quite pulls you up with a start when you notice it.  Presumably, there's been a bit of cutting and drilling there.

I like the second version of Mortis, like you.

Very spooky
Mortis will now have a crew that will literally scare people to death

I also like the second photo of Mortis
Where did you get a black insert for that headpiece?
I only recall it coming coming in green.

?Unless it came in the sword guardian?

On second thought, Cap'n Henry ...  :eh?:

I've decided that I really don't want to be one of your kids when I grow up! ...

I'm not sure that I could sleep very well in such a spooky environment ...  :o

I'd be scared half to death that I might wake up looking like a crew member (or dismember) of the Mortis ...  8}

So, please take my name off your "waiting list" ...

But thanks anyway, ... bye ...

Very imaginative conversions, Cap'n!
And the punific names you gave them are dead good too. ;)

I like 'em all, especially the necromancer in the non-pointy hat. 8-)

Thanks for the pics! :)

Thank you all for the kind words. I am glad you like them.

Presumably, there's been a bit of cutting and drilling there.

Indeed there was, some cutting and drilling and pinning (I always pin my Playmo joints, I just never trust the bond otherwise. It is probably overkill, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.)

Where did you get a black insert for that headpiece?

You are correct, it used to be green before I gave it a coat or two of Fusion. I got it in one of those DS parts packages from a while back. I was never able to find the sword guardian set, unfortunately. The tall hat was also painted with Fusion, btw.

On second thought, Cap'n Henry ...  :eh?:

Rats. Krista was thinking you could helpprovide for us in our old age! ;)

And the punific names you gave them are dead good too. ;)

Very cool Cap'n H.  I too like the last version of the necromancer. The hat is unique enough he doesn't look like a wizard but something else.

Have you posted the Mortis before? Does it exist? Or is it just a scary legend told to the wee ones late at night...

Hi  CH  :)

Your custom pirates are outstanding !! I really do like the attention to detail and the way that S.Kelly still retains his wooden leg and hook hand. Thank you very much indeed for sharing them with us  :)9

Kindest Regards  Tim

Very cool! ;D

How about a "Flying Dutchman" ship to give them an appropriate home? I can picture the tattered sails already...
