Renaissance Fair

Hi

I was just at one of our school meetings and a group of fund-raisers informed us that they were putting on a fair. What I was wondering is, are there any things Playmobil makes that would fit it at such an event. It will be a renaissance fair in the year 1580 but I am not sure if I heard her correctly ? (me and listening at school :lol:).

I can't really think of any currently produced stock sets that would work perfectly for the Renaissance, but there are many custom options.  Some slightly modified knights, soldiers, ships, and ladies with large dresses would work well.

Hi Ras,

I think most of the medieval sets (whether current or discontinued) would probably work well enough at anything calling itself a 'Renaissance Fair'. In my experience, such 'Fairs' are not exactly sticklers for historical accuracy and close attention to authentic detail, and so anything medieval looking would fit well enough.

Of course, I may be doing the organisers of your fair a disservice -- maybe they are aiming for historical accuracy and authentic detail. In which case, Justindo's and playmofire's suggestions for customs would be the only way to go.

HI

Well I do not know how accurate it really has to be. It is a school event so if it remotely resembles that period great. I was also wanting to know if this would even fit into such a fair?  I have never been to a Renaissance Fair so I have no idea what goes on.

So a castle with framework houses inside the walls, a bunch of animals, a market scene of pots- weapons- books- etc, maybe a jousting tournament then a forest scene with robin hood-ish klickies running around robbing people ??? anything else that might work ?

Hi Ras,

perhaps you should think about using some pirate-sets and ships for a Francis Drake scene. This would perfectly match the timeframe. - And I've seen lots of suitable stuff in your barn...  ;)

Knights tend to become obsolete in the 1580ies.

Not my forte, but maybe some of the Spanish Conquistadors,
Like the new Special.
And then a ship battle, with ships like the 3940.
Something like that I would think. :)

Hi

If I did use pirate ships how would the crews be dressed?

I have possibly 8 3053's, 3 3055's, 5 3174's, 3 3286's, 2 4290's, 2 4424's, 1 4806 & maybe 6 4444's

Witch ones would be best suited?

I take it that the Fair would be more of a peaceful time and would not want a big war diorama.

Would it be weird to have an ocean side with all the ships in port and a castle with the Framework houses with a castle etcetera on land?

There have been some helpful suggestions here, Rasputin.

I have been to a couple Renaissance Faires and while some participants strive for historical accuracy others, um, don't. ;)

They still had jousts in the late 16th century, so certain knights would work here.  The conquistadors with halberds, pikes, crossbows, and rapiers would also work as soldiers.

Any sort of Steck or System X castle walls with timber frame houses would work well too.

As far as ships go, 3053 and 3286 are period appropriate if you give them the appropriate banners.  4806 would work as a wrecked galleon from the ill-fated Spanish Armada.  For sailors, I would look to the medieval sets rather than the pirate ones.
