A trip to Malta
« on: June 30, 2010, 04:28:58 »
Have you guys ever been to Malta, where the factory of Playmobil is located?

Do you get any special playmobil moment in this country? Except getting the limited edition knights from their airport.

A lot of life-size playmobil standing in every single corner? and bags of parts and klickies sold at some very low prices??

Do they have more playmobil lying around than in Germany? I would love to work for a German firm in the future.

Yes, we've been at least once a year since 1996.

Although the Playmobil FunPark is small we always enjoy visiting it, partly no doubt because we know the manager there.  I must admit that in recent years are talk has been less about Playmobil and more about family and home matters! You can also buy the Maltese knight at the FunPark.

There are not a lot of Playmobil stockists on the island;  I know of two in Valletta.  There is a Sunday morning market in Valletta which used to have bags of "bootleg" Playmobil for sale but the police have acted against these sellers in recent years as the figures and parts are stolen.

Do they have more playmobil lying around than in Germany? I would love to work for a German firm in the future.

In the FunPark there is plenty of Playmobil (often/usually incomplete) about for children to play with.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the information.

The parts are stolen? Too bad....I thought it would be good to have a day trip off the cruise. Luckily this place is history-rich and is worth visiting. So comparing to Malta with Germany, which place would be better for playmobil deal? Like getting discontinued sets at fair prices?

I am just planning if I can secure a long block annual leave later in Sep to Oct. I guess would either as a one-day trip off the cruise, or visit through land, which might be more than a one-day stay. So I want to listen to people's story about their trip in Malta, and their playmobil findings over there.

Some places to see in Malta (just Malta itself and not the other islands in the group) are:

Fort Rinella and the Victorian 100 ton gun

Fort St Elmo

Valletta itself

The Playmobil FunPark of course

In Guardia (if you are there at the right time, i.e. autumn onwards) - a major display recreating a visit by a senior member of the Knights of St John

Alarm! - a Napoleonic battle recreation

The Second World War War rooms

The Aviation Museum

The old capital Mdina

Just a few which come to mind instantly.

well, what's a lot? There are quite a few regular toy shops around the island that have them standing at their door or inside somewhere - the factory has a good number of different ones. Bags with clickies and parts are not easily found, you need to know where to look: as playmofire said, they have been targetting the Valletta ones quite actively. I still find stuff at some other booth sales on ocassion, but it's not guaranteed (and I doubt you'll be able to find those..)
If you tell me when your cruise ship arrives, I'll drop by and give some stuff (any weight restrictions on you luggage on cruise ships?)  :P

Thanks.....seems it is impossible to do the sightseeing with this full list, in just one day. I will do some google with the places
