Another custom trailer
« on: June 21, 2010, 20:30:27 »
Here's a second custom trailer, again, one that's quite simple to make and is very flexible in its use by the emergency services.

The chassis is from the 4422 rally trailer:

http://collectobil.com/catalogue/items/4422.htm

and needs a bit of cutting and sanding to give a flat surface on which to mount the trailer body.

If a white chassis is preferred, then the chassis from the trailer in the 4082 mega THW set will do the job.  However, I went for the 4422 chassis because it made the trailer more flexible, it could be an emergency service one or a normal commercial one with the grey chassis.  Maybe, though, I'll do a white chassis version to go just with my THW vehicles as well.

The photos were taken before I had all the parts, so the trailer stand is missing, as can be seen in the front three-quarter view we start with.

Then a rear three-quarter view with all the sides in place:

Followed by two showing the side dropped and the rear dropped.

Of course, both sides and the tail board can be dropped for ease of loading or unloading.  However, the trailer does not tip.

The trailer parts come from the mega 4082 THW set and the axles and wheel from the 3178 fire trailer, although they could just as easily come from the similar trailer in the 4082 set.

Now some photos showing the flexibility the trailer offers.

First my fire brigade general purpose vehicle towing the trailer.  (As you can see, the other trailer custom here:

http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=4868.0

is specially designed to go this towing vehicle.)

But the trailer goes just as well with the 3181 fire brigade 4x4 (http://www.collectobil.com/catalogue/items/3181.htm) or the THW version (http://playmodb.org/setpics/4087.jpg).  (I'm on the lookout for the latter.)

The trailer is also flexible in the loads it can carry.  Here are some others.

A water tank, could be for fire-fighting or emergency drinking water, or a foam tank.

A rescue boat:

Oh yes that is excellent! :wow: :wow: :wow:

I might have to add one of these to the make list, in construction colours I think ;D

I pressume this is what it is based on?

The only thing that I thought looked slightly wierd with the rally and fire trailers, is that the wheels are not in the middle

Thank you for looking, folks and for your kind comments, Baden.  (If you have any trouble getting the trailer parts from US DS, let me know; I have bought them from UK DS with no problem.)

Thank you, too, Damo.  I based the trailer on the general purpose trailers I see local farmers and local authorities builders using.

Thank you, Panos.   And the only way to stop itching hands is to buy Playmobil, fire engines in this case.   :)
