How do I un-jam my winch?
« on: June 05, 2010, 07:13:51 »
Hello

Just came build the trailer's winch for my new fire boat last night, and have managed to get the knob jammed, so it won't turn or slide in or out. I initially thought it had got jammed on the string but that is able to slide through without problems, and i have tried stuffing a screwdriver in but am just mashing it up :'(

Has anyone else been as stupid as me, and is there a solution?

Can you post photos as there are at least two different winch designs now.  Also, it may be useful to see how the parts are lined up.

I'm assuming you have set #4823 fire boat & trailer. If you remove the cable winch from the trailer, you will then need to give a quick jerk on the turn handle drum part number 30226420 to release it from the 30226410 cable drum. Once the handle is slid out of the drum, you can remove the cable drum from cable hoist mounting bracket & investigate the cause of the jambed cable/string to correct the malfunction.
Forget about all of the other stuff,....all we need is the reintroduction of the 3526 Fire Engine!

No worries guys, I just jammed a screwdriver in and yanked it and out came the winder. The problem was nothing to do with the string, just the fact that the pins either side had not located properly in their holes, and so the winder was jammed :)

Another case where brute force is the answer.
