Roadworks
« on: May 15, 2010, 12:56:54 »
Hi,
Here is another one of my construction themed set ups. I will post lots of pics in blocks as I usually do :)

A new water pipeline is being installed deep underground a footpath, and a lane of the busy road has had to be coned off.

A large flashing lane changer is put in place to divert traffic around the roadworks:

There are lots of roads joining each other which makes traffic control difficult

Sombody has taken the bend too sharply

The pavement has been dug up, and a large ditch excavated for the new pipe:

A mini digger with a trenching bucket excavates the trench:

Following the digger is a workman with a trench compactor, making a soft bed for the pipes. The Unimog's Hiab lowers the pipe sections down:

A truck with a grabber picks up any loose excavation material:

Up the other end of the road, a temporary traffic light has been set up, and syncronised to work with the main lights at the cross roads:

Here you go Bill ;)

Caught red handed ;D

Thanks, Elaine!

The hedges and fences are from the ELC farm sets, and I use them with my Playmobil all the time. Avie and Lizzie make good company, and it turns out that Lizzie knows a bit or two about how to get the mechanics of cars and how to get an old van going ;)

It's good thing she's with you since you may require suspension work after driving over some traffic cones in the last picture !
Forget about all of the other stuff,....all we need is the reintroduction of the 3526 Fire Engine!

I don't know about other countries, but in the UK traffic cones mainly come in 2 pieces like the ones in my pic. This makes it pretty much impossible for the cone to cause any damage to a vehicle, as when the vehicle hits it and the cone slips under the vehicle, the orange bit is removed from the weighted base, allowing it to safely pass under the vehicle - unless you are very low slung ;D

We have both types here, but Playmobil's are one piece so a front end alignment will be needed if it comes wedged in the steering mechanism, especially if the truck starts to lead to either side of the road when you are not handling the steering wheel! Besides PM's cone scale is a little extreme if you haven't noticed, which could cause a major problem :o!
