The redcoat was the standard English, and from 1707 British, uniform from the inception of uniforms in England until around 1900. It is still the dress uniform and parade uniform of the British army, and can be seen everyday in London worn by Guards.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_coat_(British_army)

Thus this playmobil uniform forms the basis, with changes of hat and legs, for any British army soldier from at least  1740 to 1900. This period saw the spread of the British Empire to cover about 40% of the world's surface, and 25% of the total landmass.

Hello, Panos!

Even though we have the Garden Wargaming forum, I wonder if we should also have a "Playmobil Toy Soldiers" section here at Playmofriends. Maybe a special section somewhat like the "Playmobil Trains" section?

What do you think?

All the best,
Richard

Hello Richard,

I think that would be briliant!!! I see it as a perfect opportunity for people to show their collections, ask and answer questions, discuss methods and materials used and share ideas on how to create custom soldiers and items.

I've seen various pictures on Garden Wargaming and I am so amazed with the variety of the themes, how close the representations are to the different historical periods.

Although I am not skilled with craftsmanship (so great to see all the helmets, muskets, decorating details on the klickies--- I keep my custom soldiers so klicky based) I would like to learn more of the ''know how'', and as I do not have time going through the different forums it would be great to learn all these things here.

Finally, I believe it would certainly improve our forum as it will allow people who are involved into wargaming to be more active here as well!

Hi,

I would be in favour of such a special section, though I do have very slight reservations...

As I've said before, this is the Playmofriends forum, so a special section just on soldiers might not fit in so well. That having been said, there's nothing to prevent those not interested in such a special section of the forum simply not looking at it. Personally, I'm not much interested in trains, so I rarely (if ever) visit that part of this forum.

I'd be interested to know what forum members who are not much interested in Playmobil soldiers (of whatever era) think of the idea.

To be honest, another argument against the idea of a special 'soldiers' section is one of the elements of Playmofriends I most enjoy: the variety of different themes, approaches and ideas that all the different members bring. I don't collect anything except medieval Playmobil, but that doesn't mean I don't like seeing all the wonderful examples of highly imaginative work people do with fire, police, Victorian and western (just to name a (very) few) Playmobil. I wonder whether a special section could lead to segregation...

Maybe I'm over-reacting, and over-thinking.

Hmm... Over the course of writing this reply, I think I might have changed my mind: I can see the appeal of a special 'soldiers' section for this forum, but I think I'm inclined to keep it the way it is now.

Anyway, here's to thinking out loud  :**:

Cheers,

AndrewL

True Andrew!! Most of us are involved on a single theme!!! But we are also interested in all themes, everything that has to do with playmobil! We appreciate variety!! I am not interested in trains either, i have not even posted any replies on the train threads. But, I did go throught most of these threads and I really enjoyed what people have done with playmobil sets!
Having one such a thread broadens our horizons...And it still operated within Playmofriends guidelines as it gives members who are involved in the theme the oportunity to express themselves!!!
