Oh, we can certainly do both!!!!  ;D ;D ;D I always buy two or three boxes of each set...new anyways, unless i find a good bargain for older ones...One is kept as an investment (or two depending on the mood and most importantly...funds..., the second one is used for display, the third, fourth, fifht ones for setting up, customisation or playing.... ;D ;D ;D

I'm sorry to say I can't leave any of the boxes unopened :-[! Even if I don't have room to display a particular set, I at least open it to inspect the contents, especially if it is something I bought MIB on eBay! The reason for this excessively paranoid behavior is due to digging a "MIB" 5721 fire department rescue raft set I purchased from an eBay seller out of a storage box for a picture story long after receiving it. The auction description stated that it was a MIB set still factory sealed, but the condition of the box had wear. When I received the box by USPS after the close of auction I never opened it to check anything due to trusting the sellers description & placed the box in a larger storage box until I decided to use it later. I decided to assemble it, & when I opened one end of the box, I found that the box had been reglued, & the contents had been previously assembled with the base of the FD flag broken off & still inserted inside the holder hole of the raft. Next I found the rope for the raft hand holds, & rescue rope both had excessive knots tied in them. The grey parts spree had all parts removed & the parts were secured in one of the original plastic bags inside of the box along with the broken flag, so no rattling of loose parts was detected. I went back & questioned the seller explaining the reason for delay in discovery of this problem to which they explained that they had purchased this set in a group of items from a big name toy store that were on clearance, & they were unaware of any of the sets being previously opened or used, in other words, too bad, so sad! Too much time had passed, & a good lesson was learned from this event, check everything!
Forget about all of the other stuff,....all we need is the reintroduction of the 3526 Fire Engine!

Oh I am checking everything out once I receive them Bill... I only buy from trusted sellers on ebay and as far as finding olders sets in stores is concerned, true they are not always intact... Two sets have been previously opened but thankfully the were still wrapped and nothing was missing... but still, having a set in bad condition...well its bad...so I am usually opening that set....

I like the idea of buying more than one set. I have to say that our Playmobil is played with daily but my son is a bit hard on it and "crashes" things too often for my liking (our cars have scratches and I don't like it!). I would really like stuff just for me but doubt the kids would allow this unless I hide it. I have a MIB Victorian bathroom set I have carefully stashed away after many tears over not being allowed to play with it.

I play play play!
After all it has Play in its name... (Playmobil) ;)
I cannot leave a box unopened,
Especially if it is a castle!
So I guess I don't "collect" in the strictest sense. ;)
Though I do enjoy getting really old sets...
So I can enjoy playing with them. ;D

I collect MISB / MIB but open them and when I get a room for them I will display them.

I do play, but only with the used items I buy restore and sell on.
