Thanks for the great  review, Andi.  That looks like a mighty fine
glider!  I wonder if it is strong enough to launch with a rubber band?

Happy landings,
Jimbo

Rubber band :o?! Oh that would be so cool :)9! How would you attach the launching rubber band, Jimbo ????
Forget about all of the other stuff,....all we need is the reintroduction of the 3526 Fire Engine!

fantastic review andi, thank you.
i was really amazed by the flight speed.  8}
the glider design gave me some indication that it would need a lot of speed to stay in the air - small and short wings implying less lift at low speeds - but nothing like this.

How would you attach the launching rubber band, Jimbo ????
There would have to be an  attaching lug under the fuselage toward the front of the
plane.  If the fuselage is solid Styrofoam, you will need a full length stiffener from front to back so the ship doesn't pull apart on launching.  That will also alter your center of gravity so you will have to deal with that.  The wings need to be very secure as well so you don't leave them behind on launching... :-[.. Don't use too strong of a rubber band or you will end up
holding the tail feathers while the rest of the plane goes into the next county!

i just remembered that a throwing "lever" could be used to give extra power to the launch of the glider.  ???
like the south american "atlatl" (see picture).  :D
maybe this way the tip of the lever could be molded to fit the glider and not the other way around - minimizing the risks of altering the aerodynamic design of the glider.
  :hmm:

Cool idea Cachalote!
If anyone is wondering the pictures shows a man throwing a spear.
The Atlatl is a "holder" for the spear, and that when used (as Cachalote says) will boost the power of the spear.
I think it is a brilliant idea Cachalote, and if the glider already goes really far without one,
Who knows how far it will go with an atlatl! (Probably miles! :o )
Steck is BACK! <:>
