Construction of a new rail line
« on: April 06, 2010, 13:15:13 »
    Hi,
This morning I went into the garden and set up a scene where a new rail line is being constructed through the countryside.

I will be posting pics in blocks on this same thread as there are a lot

There are 4 companies involved in it's construction:

    • P&M - They are a large wealthy business and are in charge of planning and are project managing
    • Construct - This company has a large fleet of heavy machinery and has been selected to carry out all the major excavating and earth moving tasks
    • 3 Blocks - They are an old company with old tools but they are very skilled and knowledgeable and are in charge of construction and laying the train track
    • H&D - This company specialises in all the technical workings and electronics of the rail network

A friendly farmer has alowed the edge of his field to be used as an access road for construction traffic. This has be marked out using traffic cones.

      An overview of the work:

P&M have set up a yard area in the car park of the nearest station:

The station is still operational and people wait for the morning train:

Unfortunately work around the existing train line has to temporarily stop when trucks need to use the access road:

This is really exciting, Damo!

Are we going to get to see all the construction? And, your train in operation?

A H&D technician sets up a new signal ready for operation:

A new signal box is being built by the points, where currently trains have to be sent left until the new line is completed:

There is a regular supply of train track which is bought along the access road to wherever it is needed:

Meanwhile, just up ahead a truck is being unloaded of track sections and carefully lowered into position:

Just down from the crane is a digger clearing away any loose material that has settled on the ground, ready to recieve the track:

There are skips placed all along the work site which have to be emptied regularly:

My avatar gets a ride with the P&M site manager in his pick up:

The 3 Blocks site office is situated half way along the site:

Just outside, workers are unloading sand down to the work site from the access road for use in the track laying:

Cutting overhanging branches:

Loose material is held back by heavy steel fences:

I wonder what the digger operator is doing :D

Forklift trucks are needed to move construction supplies and equipment up and down the site:

At the very end of the site a tunnel is being dug:

Excavation material is taken away by truck:

The fire brigade are always close by:

I hope you enjoyed it :)

I'm afraid that it won't actually work as the ground is too uneven and there is a horrible bend in the flowerbed! :-[

Hmmm ...  :hmm:

If it were my railroad, Damo ...

And, I had all that great construction equipment that you've assembled on-site ...
My vote would be to go straight through the flower bed! ... ...

(Then think of something really, really clever to tell my wife.) ...
