My 2 recent fire customs
« on: April 05, 2010, 11:48:41 »
Hi,
This weekend I made 2 custom fire appliances. They have both been done before but I thought that I would have my own go.

The first one is a water carrier truck:

Pretty obvious what it was before, and all I have basically done is remove the stickers, add a flashing light unit, swapped the black hose reel for a red one, and added equipment. It is very basic custom but looks effective and i am very pleased with it. I will probably add stickers to it at some point.

There is one crew member, and in the side locker there is kept a pair of wheel chocks and spare connectors. Also carried is a pair of ramps and a warning sign which are stowed behind the seats in the cab:

The second is a fire engine:

Again pretty obvious what it was. I have added a full size steering wheel and a new style winch to the front, and a tow hook to the rear. Also added is an old style beacon on the roof. There are two crew members.

The new pair in action:

I tried my new pumping system but unfortunately it didn't work for some reason and the water went everywhere

Thanks for looking :)

Great creations flat cat! I personally have used the 3191 SnoCat, 3173 Fuel Tanker, & 3880 Fire Engine units in custom fire apparatus projects myself, & find them very versatile!
Forget about all of the other stuff,....all we need is the reintroduction of the 3526 Fire Engine!

Two excellent customs, flatcat.  I suggest that for your water carrier just a broad red stripe round the vehicle's waist line will look good.  Isle of Wight Fire Brigade usd to have this livery, white vehicle with red waist line stripe, and it looked very smart.

I like the tracked vehicle very much, too.  Clearly, we have another top quality fire and rescue customiser in you.   :wow: :wow: :wow:

Thanks for the positive comments everyone, I enjoyed making them very much :)

Basically I got a snowcat from set 3191, removed the flatbed off it and replaced it with the back of a 3880 fire engine. Luckily they were both matching red so there was no painting involved :)

That sounds like a very good idea, Gordon. What do you recommend is a good way to do this as I haven't done anything like this before ???

Hi Flat cat!
Look in the story telling section here at my Playmobil City Fire Department brush firefighting units on the job at my version of a tanker with stripes. You may also want to trade the current blue flashing light you presently have with one from the 4221 ambulance because it is more shallow letting you put fire Klickys in the drivers seat without interference of their helmets hitting the bottom of the flasher light.

The easiest way is to get some striping tape, either from a motorists' accessory shop or from a model shop.  The tape from the motoring accessory shop, however, may be a little thick.  Another way is to use waterslide transfers.  I'll post some details of addresses and product names tomorrow for you.

I tried a slimline unit but I preferred the look of the ones I have currently
