The red house was never sold (until recently) and appeared only in dioramas pictured in boxes- so collectors always wanted it-  Playmobil indulged their fans and released a red house as an add-on.
Cheers!

I don't know that it was so wanted at the time- I think it was later, after all the old houses, except for the ones in the add-on catalog, were discontinued, and the advent of the internet, that the red house became so popular.  As for the roof, Playmobil has only ever (to my knowledge) offered one style of house as an add-on- this same house has now been offered in a variety of colors, but the same roof pieces, dormer windows.

I think that all was done for economic reasons, even the use of a single pattern for the reproduced frame houses through the DS catalogues, but not sure exactly what were they...

you mean that it became popular when the series discounted it might be that ,i don't think it would be for economical reasons because if it was so wanted they would produce this istead of an another set.

I bought recently 6 of these red houses. They arent available anymore , i love these houses, quite pricey these days on ebay  but not as much as the blue houses which are far more hard to find !!! Red houses are awesome. and so are blue, yellow, green and white ..

There is a brief reference to these houses in the playmobil collector's guide ed 3 and ed 1 ( i ahvent got ed 2 but iam sure its there also !!!)

Yes there is a reference to the 2nd edition as well stating thet it was for economic reasons that playmobil did not issue the red house in those earlier years. I wander what those reasons were....

I am happy to say that I have a green house on the way... and i set my eyes on the museum, town hall, and city guard.... ;D ;D ;D
