Dragonland
« on: March 27, 2010, 21:22:48 »
I really like to share this with you guys!!!
Don't know if somebody else (apart from Richard) showed you any of this but I have all the sets (apart from the big catapult/prisoner carriage) decorating my livingroom!
I am really amazed with the new variety on the figures and the mythical aspect of the whole theme. I even watched the story around it on the french playmobil site but could not get a hold of the whole story (my french is rusty). Did you know that this towers are build on top of a dragon who was covered with lava while he was sleeping?? The knights who build these towers discovered that the blue fire (the dragon's breath) would give power to their weapons, while the heart of the dragon (the golden shield and sword) would give them magic powers in order to fly...after that i got lost with who started the fighting and why...

Any way here is how i have set them up for the time being. I am looking forward to setting them up even better!

They make a very attractive setup Wolf!  :lens:

I hope to get the two "castles" and some of the supplementary sets as soon as I can here in the US, but like you I have reservations about the big catapult/prison, it's just a bit too silly.

The black dragon looks great, but the red wyvern on the left is I think a repeat of the "chicken dragon" whose wobbly loose wings were the subject of much discussion here on Playmofriends last year. Are the wings on your one subject to disconnecting when you reposition them?

You are right Martin, that red wyvern is very similar to the ''chicken dragon'', apart from the fact that it has less articulation points than its ancestor.

The wings can be disconnected easily after assembling, and that is if you pul them hard, but so is the issue with the older dragon... at least with mine.

Good to see some close ups of that wyvern, thanks Wolf Knight!

It's clearly not the exact same mould, so the problem is hopefully reduced or eliminated, and it does provide a different dragon figure.

The chicken dragon's wings tended to fall off if you looked at them funny. There has been a fix prescribed, here:

Oh, so the chicken dragon is the one from 5840. No its not the same as mine. Totaly different mould. I like this one better. Maybe early stages of design were overlooked, thus the falling apart wings...
Do you ever get the feeling Martin that some sets are not very well designed these days? I have this feeling with 4806 ghost ship...

why you call the old dragon chicken dragon ? i don't like these new dragon sets they are some of the worst of playmobil toys ever made apart from the figures and the dragons wich are beautiful the castle...etc is not that impressive for me!!the towers remind me some cheap night's toys for boys!!  what do you think ?

On the contrary, although I am a huge fan of the old steck castles and I am trying to get as many steck sets or pieces as I can, this new theme is very mythical and atmospheric... Perhaps if I had placed a proper background, foreground and added some lighting....but that takes time I cannot spare right now...

If you liked fantasy literature and also watched the story for this theme on the german and french playmobil site you'de be very happy that playmobil produced them! Pity that Playmobil Hellas did not even bother with producing at least a special leaflet for it. They are also very well designed and manufactured, with loads of extras, trapdoors, dungeons etc...the only thing I am not happy about is the scale of the whole thing. The castle is disproportionate to the clickies...

As for the older dragons, I am not sure we refer to them as chicken dragons, but we definately do for the dragon of 5840 set, because he looks like a chicken... ;D ;D
