« on: March 09, 2010, 13:13:05 »
Hi Pf,

yesterday i had luck and get the new ZOO Deco for a good price without BOX.
I saw Richard post a thread , i want to make only a elephant review yet.

Make some pictures from the ZOO later in Richard´s thread.

Ok start.....

First i must say the Elephant was a complete new design.

Pic 1: The new one its a little longer as the older and the older weight 221 gramm the new one 168 gramm

Pic 2: have a look inside the feet

Pic 3: the older one its a little higher without head from feet to neck 11,5 cm , new one 11 cm !

Pic 4,5,6: the ears can you move vorward and back

Pic 7: you can move the head 360° around !!

Pic 8: have a look inside the head

Pic 9: have a look inside the leg

Pic 10 : from behind !

Pic 11: inside the trunk

Pic 12: yes you can change the trunk but its not official there are 2 holes a bigger and a smaller inside, its not 100% compatible !!
and the tusk are flexible plastik

Pic 13: last but not least the test with the old addons , some problems to use it have a look.

Great review, Andi! ...  :wow: :wow: :wow:

I had no idea that this was an entirely new elephant.
I thought that they just turned the trunk around ...  :eh?:

Wonder why Geobra went through the expense of making new moulds?
Maybe the old moulds wore out or broke?

Thanks again, Andi, for a very complete and thorough review of the new Playmobil elephant.

All the best my friend,
Richard

Thank you for the excellent comparisons between the new & old versions, Andi  :wow:! I know that in time the differences will not be as noticed, but I favor the old style over the new ones presently! It's a shame that the old accessories don't work with the new version  :(!

I believe this one is supposed to represent an Asian elephant rather than the African one that has been around for a while. Nice review Andi. In general they have been slowly reworking all of the animals. Too bad they didn't make the trunk easy to flip around, that would have been nice.

You may be on to something, Tim  :hmm:! That would explain the smaller framed body, along with the ear & facial differences! Altough it's a shame to witness what seems to be a cheapened design with hollow feet & a smaller stature requiring less plastic. I wonder if this version will cost less because of less materials needed to produce it :eh?:? NOT !

They both look like African elephants to me.  I used to work at my local zoo, and one of the physical differences between an Asian and an African elephant is that the Asian species has smaller ears.  The ears on both versions here are large relative to the head, thus African.

I do belive I prefer the old style elephant as well, but I suppose the new one is more flexible in what it can do :-\

Thanks for the great review Andi

Thx for the review! I must say I prefer the old one over the new one. With the restyling of most animals, some are great (sheep & chicken), some are rather thin (horse) and some are unnessecary (this elephant), it was a real classic as such...
