Solution to "Problem with Typing"
« on: March 02, 2010, 15:29:09 »
I have been poking around looking for a solution to the problem that flatcat raised in this thread: Problem with Typing and I think I have found it!  At least for those of us using the lastest version of Internet Explorer.

There is something called "Compatibility View" which can be accessed (when you are here at Playmofriends or any website) by clicking Tools/Compatibility View Settings/Add this website.  You may also have a little icon for Compatibility View on your browser tool bar - it looks like a sheet of paper torn in half horizontally.  The description of Compatibility View is:  "Websites designed for older browsers will often look better and problems such as out-of-place menus, images, or text will be corrected."

If you click on that icon while on a website, it will be put into "Compatibility View" and the setting will be saved for future visits.  If you click the icon (or click Tools/Compatibility View) a second time, it will remove the setting.  Don't make the same mistake that I made (twice!  :-[ ) and click compatibility view while typing a reply - it will disappear!

I have made a few tests (including this very post) and it does seems to solve the problem for internet explorer users.  Sorry, Rasputin!  :'(

Some more information:  depending on your other Internet Explorer settings the "Compatibility View" setting for Playmofriends may not be saved for your next visit (if you have it set to automatically delete your browsing history, for example.)

My advice if you need/want to use compatibility view:  make sure the setting is in place BEFORE TYPING your post.  If you switch "Compatibility View" on (or off) while composing your post, the entire post will be lost!   :o

You can check to see if Compatibility View is currently enabled for the website you are visiting by clicking on your IE Tools menu - there will be a check mark by Compatibility View if it is turned on.  But just look at it - don't click on that line if you are in the middle of composing a post!

Thank you for the valuable info on correcting this frustrating issue  :)9!
Forget about all of the other stuff,....all we need is the reintroduction of the 3526 Fire Engine!

Thanks Indiana!  You are worth several Micrososts in terms of fixing problems!

I would never have thought of looking for that, because I didn't know it was there!

Here's hoping that Bill Gates and his minions don't come up with any more "improvements" to Windows or IE for a goodly while.

Hi

I did not change anything and it no longer does it ?

Rasputin "The Mad Monk"
If you hear the sound of the bell which will tell you that Grigori has been killed, if it was your relations who have wrought my death, then no one in the family will remain alive. They will be killed by the Russian people. :prays:

Hi Rasputin

The stuff I was talking about just applies to Internet Explorer and I think you said previously that you were using Firefox - does this mean that you didn't even have to update your Firefox browser software?  Whatever the case, here's hoping the problem is permanently solved.    :yup:
