It has to do with the number of molds they need to produce. They produce one mold from the mastermold and use that to produce the sets. They start producing the sets the year before release. These are all meant for the releasemarkets.
The sets produced during the release-year are all meant for the other markets. To put it simply:

release year - 1 = producing for the release markets
release year = producing for the other markets
after that = producing the upkeep for the stores

They could produce all the sets for all the markets in one year - but in that case, they would need a second mold. Unfortunately, that's simply too expensive.
This two-step approach saves them nearly 200.000 euro (if I recall that correctly).
That's what we were told back in 2004 in Dietenhofen

... But I do hope that the new house won't be yellow! ...

With my luck - it would turn out vomit-green  :-[ with the park fence in matching colours ...

Hi Count Bogro

Yes and do not forget how popular a vomit-green touring car and Victorian truck would be

By doing things this way there are also big savings on storage costs - imagine the cost of storing all those sets for the post-release year markets?  Also, imagine the cost of having a flop on your hands with all your production complete!  With the present system, if a set fails in the release market, then it is possible to cut back on production for the post-release market.  (At one time, Playmobil used to produce 10,000 of a set and store it, releasing it on to the market to meet demand and only producing more after it was sold out.)

Thanks, Bogro, that's very useful.  Nothing of interest to me personally, but it's useful to know that for budgeting.

At least we have an idea. The knights might have some little details of interest but in general and unsurprisingly it is going to be "Never change an winning story". Now I am burning to find out how the new dollhouse is going to be somewhat different from the modern dollhouse. Will there be "new" antique furniture ore the old stuff revisited.
Cheers
Michael

Thanks for posting the pix, Gordon!

I must confess that I really like the 4857 vacation home - the first system X modern house that I really go for!  It looks a bit like an Italian villa.
  :)

Yes! Thank you very much for the pictures, Gordon ...  :wow:

And, Anne, you seem to have a real warm spot  for the Italians ... ;)
